Review for Destiny 2. Game for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the video game was released on 06/09/2017 The version for PC came out on 24/10/2017

We've thoroughly played Destiny 2: Forsaken, the major expansion of Destiny 2 released on September 4th. Expectations were different given that the path of the second chapter of the Bungie saga had not so far been able to keep players glued to the screen. So with many fears but at the same time expectations, we have approached what in effect could be the rebirth of Destiny 2 or its definitive tombstone. Without further ado, let's discover our impressions together.

Destiny 2: Forsaken - The Review

One of the main flaws that we had found in The Curse of Osiris and The Warring Mind was the lack of depth and longevity of the plot, which in a very hasty way dealt with themes and characters important to the lore. One of the main curiosities about Destiny 2: Forsaken was certainly the one concerning the management of narrative and colossal figures such as Cayde-6, Uldren Sov and the Queen of the Sleepless Mara Sov. Well, finally in this expansion Bungie really seems to have remembered the reasons why the first Destiny managed to thrill so many people. Rhythm, pathos, quality of writing, all the elements now move in sync, making the campaign package a great product. Longevity also seemed appropriate to us to do justice to the elements and characters treated; the Barons, Uldren, Sleepless, all have a defined role that is explained and shown during the missions. In addition, the Adventures, which in the previous releases were really marginal, gain a central role. All this is amplified by the return of the Grimoire, this time in-game through a special section of the Triumphs; this solution finally enhances the developers' writing work, allowing interested parties to immerse themselves in the universe created by Bungie. Cayde-6's Revenge is a dish that every Guardian will enjoy the way they like, and Uldren Sov's days are numbered; But deep within the Asteroid Belt, a greater and more dangerous evil lurks, which has forced the Sleepless to give up their home. It's up to you now to immerse yourself in this great return of Bungie fiction.

Another aspect that most interested the community was the sandbox. Some choices made since launch had made some activities complicated and reduced to the bone the search for weapons with the so-called "God Roll" (a weapon dropped with the best and most powerful perks possible) given the absence of random perks. Well, as early as August 28, a week before the launch of the expansion, the Destiny 2 sandox has been modified to meet the needs of players. Random perks have returned and several mechanics such as the weapon slot system have been revised. With the release of the expansion, however, other small changes to the sandbox have been introduced: now weapons and armor have a new system of changes that no longer affect the Light Level but acts like the perks, i.e. offering a new unique feature to the object on which the change is applied. Therefore choosing the right modification for each situation is essential. Weapon slots, random perks, new modification system give immense depth that guarantees players different reasons to face and repeat the daily and weekly activities continuously. It seems trivial, but it's not: a game like Destiny 2 needs these stimuli to survive over time. To close the circle of the news regarding the sandbox, the introduction of the bows and the new super skills. This new category of weapons drastically changes the approach to all activities by increasing not only the variety of choice but also placing a focus on the ability to do critical damage and precise shots, even more than with snipers. As for the new super abilities, on the other hand, these are new super but not new elements. Each type of super (arc, solar, void) will have a new branch that will introduce a new way to approach the use of these devastating moves. Whether you are hunters, sorcerers or titans you will have something to enjoy: each super is designed to offer a new approach to the different activities available, increasing the possibility of creating more assorted and strategically even more effective teams.

Destiny 2: Forsaken - The Review

The end game is a fundamental element, and Bungie knows it. The mistakes made so far in the management of this part of the game have not been committed again, and finally we are faced with a set of mysteries, activities and mechanisms worthy of the end-game name. We are not talking about the exotic quests, which, although they have increased and keep glued to the screen for a long time, alone are not enough to support the entire final part of such a rich title. The new mode Venture and the new area The Dreaming City they are the real end-game hub. The first is a hybrid PvEvP mode in which two teams of four players will face each other in a challenge to defeat the boss of his area as quickly as possible with the possibility of invading the opposing session every now and then to disturb your enemies, all at its best. of the three rounds. We have seen and talked a lot about this modality, but its effectiveness is not measurable if not tested. We tell you immediately: played in a team by addiction. Fun, frenetic, challenging and deep in mechanics and strategies, Gambit is today one of the best modes introduced by Bungie not only for Destiny 2: Forsaken. The Dreaming City instead is a completely end-game area full of secrets, unlockable only after completing the campaign. Nobody will explain anything in this place: Petra Venj will be the vendor and will also offer you some bounties, but on how to complete tasks or solve puzzles no one will give you any information. The stimuli in this place are unimaginable and the quantities of activity too. Not only the Blind Well, a hybrid activity that combines the Protocol of Intensification with the old Court of Oryx, but also activities that require exploration and ingenuity to be found in the map.

Destiny 2: Forsaken - The Review

Finally, there is the raid, the main activity of the Destiny end-game. L' "Last wish“, This is the name of the Forsaken Raid, it is surprising for its charm, depth and difficulty. The mechanics of the clashes with Kalli, Suro Chi, Morgeth and finally Riven as well as being well congenital are also extremely stimulating. The difficulty of the raid has also finally returned to being very high (recommended light level of 550, to participate and finish the first step therefore you will need at least 540) and this has produced not only an extension of the completion times - 19 hours it took to the first team in the world to complete it - but also a reduction in the chances for most players to complete the task in the very first few weeks of play. The fascination that immediately enveloped the Dreaming City reached its peak in the Last Wish raid, which to date is the most exciting, intriguing and lore-filled activity in all of Destiny 2. Finally, as icing on the cake, the fact that From now on, the Dreaming City will constantly change based on the actions of the players, with missions that will be unlocked over time, and mysteries that will require different community actions to be revealed.

Destiny 2: Forsaken - The Review

Destiny 2: Forsaken marks the definitive return of Destiny 2. This expansion, to date, is not only the best produced by Bungie for charm and mystery, but it is also the largest in terms of activities and rewards. A solid and well-directed adventure, a varied and deep end-game and a very high quality in the writing of main quests, sub-quests and assaults. If we want to nitpick, the only flaw is that PvP (other than Gambit) should be improved both in quality and in matchmaking times. Bungie has finally repopulated Destiny servers thanks to this expansion; now the path will be less uphill, but history teaches that the secret is not so much to achieve success, as to maintain it ..
