    E3 2019: Cyberpunk 2077 - Preview

Make yourself comfortable, what we are about to tell you today is ours preview on Cyberpunk 3 E2019 2077 demo. After the presentation, we have reflected several times on how to tell you about this experience and, in the end, we have chosen an approach that is very focused on the narrative aspect, without however neglecting important details on the setting, gameplay and so on.

We will try to tell you as much as possible and above all we hope to involve you in this journey into the magnificent Night City of Cyberpunk 2077, as a taste of what we will all see on April 16th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

The beginning of the demo immediately shows us the character creation, which in Cyberpunk 2077 perfectly follows the RPG style, giving us the possibility to choose gender, face, hair or build. As in any self-respecting role-playing game we will also have to assign the classic attribute points, which will be distributed on: Body, Intelligence, Reflexes, Cool and Technical, each of which will allow us to build the character that best suits our style of play. Once we have created our version of V, we will also have to choose the Life Path, choosing between: Nomad, Street kid or corporate, a choice that will greatly influence both the gameplay and the interaction with the NPCs present in Night City.

Style in Cyberpunk 2077 is a key element that the developers wanted to enhance, offering many customization possibilities: all to reach a certain level of style, which can actually change the interactions with the NPCs who will make positive / negative comments based on our style. We also briefly saw the interface of one of the shops that will be available in Night City and from which we can buy various items, including the Deamons, some malware that we can implant in the Cyberdeck and use to our advantage during missions.

The Cyberpunk 2077 demo is more or less in the middle of the game, where V, our protagonist, is intent on discovering the secret of a mysterious chip implanted in his neck. This chip, in addition to giving him extraordinary skills, such as the ability to translate other languages in real time, allows him to get in touch with a digital figure, more precisely a hologram: Jonny Silverhand, or the character played by Keanu Reeves. Our overwhelming desire for knowledge pushes us to search for a contact to try to find out more about this chip, and we will do this by knowing Placide who, after obtaining information near the base of the Voodoo-Boys of the church, we will finally find in the butcher's shop . In Night City, meat is obviously very rare, given its high cost, while the consumption of synthetic paper is much more widespread, much more affordable for ordinary people. Reached Placide we immediately get to the point; we want to meet Brigitte, head of the Voodoo-Boys. Brigitte seems to be the only one who knows how the chip works and may be the only one able to help us.

The chip implanted in our neck it provides us with unique abilities but above all, it seems to contain the secret of immortality, which makes it a truly unique object. If you remember the trailer released by CD Projekt RED during the Microsoft conference, you can easily reconnect the facts we are telling you, in fact the trailer shows the scene in which we, V, and his friend Jackie manage to escape with the chip, but despite the successful escape Jackie is hit, and aware of having no more hope, he leaves the chip soaked in blood. Devastated by the loss of our friend we still go to collect our reward, but things don't go as we hoped. We get hit and this leads to a hand-to-hand fight that ends with the death of our character, which later wakes up in a landfill after a system reboot, most likely caused by the mysterious chip.

At this point Johnny Silverhand appears, a figure who will often accompany us throughout the story: it is a digital hologram created by the chip and with which we can communicate and receive information during our missions. Silverhand, to give you a more complete idea of his background, is the lead singer of the Samurai, a very famous rock group that long ago suffered its disappearance.

There are no particular details, but we know that already in the last demo of Cyberpunk 2077 there were references to this event, thanks to various signs that read "Where is Johnny?".

Returning to our meeting with Placide, during the conversation we learn that he knows where Brigitte is, but obviously before telling us he wants us to do something for him. First of all, he asks us to make a “link” with his system, that is, one direct connection between our brain and the Voodoo-Boys subnet, so as to allow him to hear and see everything that passes from our senses to the brain. V obviously doesn't seem very convinced by such a rushed request, but the stakes are high and for this reason he decides to connect to Placide, as if the continuous appearances of Silverhand's hologram were not already enough.

Placide then tells us about his mission concerning the Animals, a gang that has settled in one of the largest shopping centers in Pacifica, and which, as if that were not enough, seems to have a van full of extremely advanced technology. Placide wants to solve this problem as soon as possible, obviously requesting our intervention.

This conversation also highlights the Cyberpunk 2077's complex system of choices, which will vary based on our decisions in terms of narration, the skills we will unlock and the Life Path we choose during the character creation phase. The Life Path is in fact an element that determines V's background, going to define his character and education. After our conversation, we leave the office and head towards our motorbike, which we will use to reach the shopping center.

So we are finally outdoors, we get on our beautiful orange bike and start racing through the streets of Pacifica. Pacifica is the district that was originally supposed to house the biggest attractions of the city; skyscrapers, shopping malls and leisure activities for all the inhabitants and on which investors had paid large sums of money. A great economic crisis, accompanied by a mountain of other problems, however, pushed investors to flee Pacifica, leaving it in spite of vandals and gangs of criminals including the Animals. In this phase of "free roaming" we are shown the district, which unlike the rest of Night City is completely abandoned to itself, albeit always with a charm that we will hardly be able to describe.

    E3 2019: Cyberpunk 2077 - Preview

An almost poetic sunset gave us wonderful glimpses of skyscrapers under construction and abandoned buildings, some covered with teeming and wild vegetation. Nothing is left to chance: an advertising sign shows us Pacifica as it should have been in reality; beautiful, rich and above all alive. The background that we find behind it, however, is different, and is such as to induce in us and in the rest of the public a little sadness towards this city now abandoned to itself. However, we resume our journey to the shopping center, which we reach on our radiant motorbike, all thanks to a guidance system that allows us to manage movements both in subjective and with the third-person view.

At the entrance to the Mall we find two of Placide's henchmen, who offer to give us a hand, and Placide, who can listen and talk to us thanks to the connection, suggests us not to listen to them and to have a stealth approach, however leaving us the faculty. to act as we see fit. We sneak in through the back door and stealthily avoid the first Animals, which as explained by the team are people who take great care of their physical appearance and for this reason they all look like ferocious bloodthirsty gorillas. Having taken the first steps inside the shopping center, however, we find the road blocked by an enemy that we must necessarily neutralize; we then silently approach and evaluate the proposed options: lethal or non-lethal elimination. The developers have confirmed to us that the game is meant to be finished even without killing anyone, so the non-lethal elimination approach can be useful in cases where you just want to stun the enemy and then throw them in a dumpster, for example I our case.

    E3 2019: Cyberpunk 2077 - Preview

At this point, some eliminations follow that allow us to see in action some of the characteristic tools of our character, which in this case was built as net-runner, i.e. with high hacking skills. His abilities allow him, through the use of a Net-wire (the orange cable we already met in the last demo) of connect to any electronic device and control it at will.

In the demo of Cyberpunk 2077 we were shown how it is possible to connect to enemy robots to attack, or to the weight lifting machinery in the Animals gym in order to increase the load exponentially and make our unfortunate die crushed. The Net-wire can also be used as a weapon to kill enemies directly or for example to connect to cameras and access points for opening doors. With our net-runner skills we are therefore able to connect to the network, but as we do this we notice that there is already another net-runner connected. What is going on?

    E3 2019: Cyberpunk 2077 - Preview

In this Cyberpunk 2077 demo the developers have included the ability to quickly switch from one character type to another to show us how different attributes can change the approach to missions. Let's move on to a female version of V, which unlike our net runner does not have great hacking skills, but is rather equipped with a superhuman strength, which allows him to open doors with brute force, smash cameras, destroy enemies with punches and even eradicate an enemy turret for use as a portable mini-gun.

With our V we also face what appears to be one boss fight with Sasquatch, leader of the Animals, whose characteristic is given by the armor that provides him with complete immunity to damage thanks to the feeding of a core positioned behind the back, which we will have to destroy to kill him.

    E3 2019: Cyberpunk 2077 - Preview

We manage to connect to the van and discover that it actually belongs to an agency that fights against CyberCrime, the NetWatch. The situation is becoming delicate, it is urgent to locate this net-runner and eliminate it as soon as possible before it gets bad for us. We manage to locate the NetWatch member but it turns out to be protected by enemies and turrets, which with the "powerful" version of V can be detached and used as weapons, while with the net-runner version they can be hacked and used to our advantage. These are just some of the ways to overcome certain sections of the game, the developers have revealed to us how missions can be completed in many different ways, making the experience modular on the player's style.

The shooting phases of Cyberpunk 2077 that we were able to appreciate seemed to us quite valid, both in terms of the feed of the shots, and for the effect they have on the enemies. The only thing that has not fully convinced us of this system are the animations, which as for the Net Wire, are still a bit imprecise, but of course we have been told that these details are already being improved and at launch we will have a much cleaner game than what we have seen so far.

Once our agent is located, we reach him and find out who he is: he is Bryce Mosley, a special agent who is investigating the Animals and the Voodoo-Boys, and reveals that we were actually cheated by Placide, that we shouldn't trust him, as he only wants to use us to destroy the Animals and steal our chip. Also in this case we will have the right to choose our destiny: trust the agent or stay loyal to Placide? In this demo we choose to stick with Placide and then kill Bryce, but we discover too late that we have made the wrong choice. In fact, Placide no longer needs us and thanks to his connection with us he can kill us at any moment, and that's exactly what he will do.

A few hours later, miraculously, we resurrect from the world of the dead for the second time, again thanks to our chip, and with Silverhand at our side again, who retraces with us what just happened to us. We recover our strength and return to Placide to take revenge, but when he also appears close to him Brigitte, which less surprised than Placide offers us a deal: a connection in Cyberspace with the possibility of meeting Alt Cunningham, the first net-runner to have moved into cyberspace. We accept the proposal, we immerse ourselves in an icy tub connected to cables and we find ourselves in a completely digital world, from which no one has ever returned, or at least until now.

    E3 2019: Cyberpunk 2077 - Preview

The Cyberpunk 2077 demo ended with this move to Cyberspace, and net of some uncertainty in some animations we found further confirmation of the excellent work CD Projekt Red is doing with this game. A living, vibrant world that changes around us and makes us partakers of a new and multi-faceted society. We wanted to tell you the story as if we were chatting with friends, describing in as much detail as possible the plot and the sensations we felt living this experience, in the hope of having intrigued you since this, at the moment, is one of the most promising titles of 2020 : Cyberpunk 2077.
