The Gamescom event previously planned as a hybrid in the 2021 edition, will be digital only.
La German Games Industry Association, which organizes the festival known to most as Gamescom, announced that also in this 2021 as last year it will take place in all digital form. The decision was made after long discussions with partners and exhibitors, considering that too many companies, due to the pandemic context, have declared themselves unable to participate in physical events this year.
Gamescom 2021 digital will begin with “Gamescom: Opening Night Live“, hosted by Geoff Keighley on 25th August, followed by the two main days of the event on 26 and 27 August. The “Gamescom Now” hub will also be completely renovated with numerous possibilities for users and partners. There will also be the “Gamescom Epix”, a campaign dedicated to the community that allows fans to immerse themselves in the universe of the event.

We have put all our energy into making Gamescom 2021 a hybrid format possible for both fans and the industry. However, while the concept has been very well received by partners, we have had to recognize that Gamescom is still too early for many companies in the industry due to the planning reliability required. One thing is absolutely clear: everyone involved now needs certainty. That's why we have to go (again) for a purely digital Gamescom this year, and with enough time, we'll be able to offer the gamer community an even stronger online event at the end of August.
