Humble Bundle places a limit on charity

A big change shakes the foundation of the Humble Bundle.

The foundation of our philosophy is pricing flexibility, we read on the Humble Bundle website, which has made a name for itself since it was founded in 2010 to purchase video games and other content and have the opportunity to do charity. According to this idea, in fact, the player chooses how much to donate to developers, charities and Humble Bundle itself through the use of three different sliders, with the possibility for some games to assign part or even all of the amount for a good purpose.

Well, it seems that this philosophy is destined to change soon: Humble Bundle is currently testing a "fixed" system that places a limit on how much to donate to charity, precisely 15%.

It all started a month ago, when the site has hidden the bars from some selected players without notice. In a recent press release we read that the bars will be replaced by default options (toggles) which clearly show how the purchase sum will be split between Humble, publisher and charity - the latter up to 15%. The press release then concludes by announcing an improvement in navigation.

In the image you can see how the new option works. On a $ 25 purchase, two choices are offered, “Default Donation” and “Extra to Charity”. The second involves 15% going to charity ($ 3.75).

The digital PC store said it was proud to have accumulated 195 million that went to charity over the years, justifying it as a way to "unify the various services offered". The end of the customizable bars should arrive towards the end of May, but in the meantime Humble has warned that these are not visible at the moment to understand the behavior of the customer in view of the new course. As expected, however, the change has not been well received by consumers, who are asking for more clarity, pointing to Humble Bundle as miserly.
