Review for Ice Age: Scrat's Nutty Adventure. Game for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Steam, the video game was released on 18/10/2019

Released in cinemas in 2002, the animated film The ice Age immediately received a videogame tie-in, with the release of the first chapter on the Game Boy Advance. The first film was followed by films and video games, Ice Age 2: The Thaw (PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, PC, Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance), Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, Nintendo DS and PC), Ice Age 4: Continents Adrift - Polar Games (PlayStation 3, Wii, Nintendo 3DS and PC) e The ice age: The village (iOS and Android). With the exception of The Ice Age: On a collision course, every cinematic adventure has hit the gaming shelves.

The last of this long series is the new chapter Ice Age: Scrat's Crazy Adventure, known in English as Ice Age: Scrat's Nutty Adventure, released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, a spinf off production that tells the deeds of the most famous saber-toothed squirrel in animation and the gaming world.

Ice Age: Scrat's Nutty Adventure - Review

The plot is simple: Scrat finds himself in an ancient temple of the Scrattazzoni, the mechanism that contains the treasure is locked and the only way to open it is to recover the crystal acorns scattered in the game worlds, the frozen cliffs, the fields glacial caves, glacial caves and the hidden world. Scrat's adventure starts right here. Each world is made up of as many four levels, for a total of sixteen locations plus the temple area. In the course of his adventure Scrat will have to deal with some enemies who will try to prevent him from reaching his goal, among these we find insects, wolves and dinosaurs. Furthermore, at the end of each game world, we will have to face a boss taken from the cinematic work. These are very simplified fights, in which it will almost always be enough to avoid the enemy's attacks, to leave him stunned and then hit him with karate moves.

As you could already guess from the videos, the gameplay is rather linear and the combat system reduced to a few simple actions: with one button you jump, with another you attack, with one you perform the actions and with the backbones you throw objects. It is a rather easy title to complete, where the only real difficulty lies in the search for collectibles, often hidden in some caves scattered throughout the levels. The game world, in fact, is simple in its linearity, articulated in the level design. A classic platform video game, with some action adventure elements, that requires a fair amount of exploration to be 100% completed and unlock all achievements on the trophy list.

Just Add Water and Outright Games Limited have introduced a skill system to try to increase longevity. In fact, once each game world is concluded, Scrat will learn new moves that will serve to reach places that were unreachable in the first place. With this system, to complete Ice Age: Scrat's Nutty Adventure by unlocking all the items and extras, it is necessary to replay each level twice, to reach places that were blocked during the main adventure.

Ice Age: Scrat's Nutty Adventure - Review

If in its simplicity The Ice Age: Scrat's Bizarre Adventure is a fun video game, it's not without some minor flaws. In our review, which is based on the PlayStation 4 version, we noticed that the camera often does not follow Scrat's movement, making certain actions difficult at times. On other occasions we have noticed some bugs in the textures, with the backgrounds animated by different prehistoric animals that sometimes have a better quality than the level.

Positive notes instead for the soundtrack and graphics: Although we're not talking about a triple-A production, at least on Ice Age consoles: Scrat's Nutty Adventure is very colorful and enjoyable to watch and listen to.

Ice Age: Scrat's Nutty Adventure - Review

Ice Age: Scrat's Nutty Adventure is a fun, colorful, short and easy title. Scrat's unlockable abilities add variety to the adventure, forcing you to replay each level to collect all collectibles and extras. On consoles, this new title taken from the adventures of Ice Age is graphically captivating, net of some errors in the textures. However, it is an interesting video game with a convincing level design.
