Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New Deity - Review

If you were feeling fulfilled after saving the Golden Isle from Typhon's fury, and you were getting a well deserved sleep in front of one of its wonderful views, we are sorry to warn you that you will have to wake up, because Fenyx's adventure is not over yet and a place on Olympus awaits you! This first of three Ubisoft planned DLCs for Immortals Fenyx Rising is finally here, and offers the player a series of challenges set on Mount Olympus that will allow Fenyx to sit alongside the other Gods of the Greek Pantheon. Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New Deity comes as an extension of the story faced in the main game, and starts right where we left off.

At the side of Lord Papa

As we are already explained in the first moments of the adventure, Fenyx (Who in our game is a heroine) was allowed to live on Mount Olympus, but despite this, to be able to sit next to Zeus (Lord Dad for her) and the others, will have to overcome a series of challenges specially created by the gods we have come to know during our fight against Typhon. The narrative tones remain those that characterized the main title: irony, humor and lightness will accompany us during this new adventure. The story, however, as one could already imagine, will be less present and central, as this first DLC focuses almost entirely on the gameplay and the challenges to be faced. Our goal will be "simply" to pass all the tests prepared by the Gods, which reflect the style of the crypts of the main game, to deserve a place on Olympus.

The gameplay also revolves around the challenges we will have to face. If in the main title we learned about the Crypts of Tartarus, real dungeons in which to test our skills, in Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New Divinity the famous tests will follow more or less the same setting, with however the addition of new powers, new abilities and new game mechanics that will continue to surprise us until the end. The level structure is incredibly complex, but at the same time rewarding once you manage to find the solution. Obviously there is no shortage of levels that will introduce us to new game mechanics, which only once understood and internalized will be combined to create challenges that are always stimulating and that will require a good dose of reasoning and pad skills in hand. As also during the main adventure, missions can be tackled without following a predetermined order, with the only exception of some that will only be accessible after unlocking certain upgrades.

The divine powers already in our possession will be strengthened and expanded as we pass the tests: at some point we will unlock for example the ability to create wind vortexes on which to glide, and for this the title will never be boring or repetitive. Another strong point of this DLC, as it was also for Immortals Fenyx Rising, is the possibility of solving environmental puzzles in a completely free way, also bypassing the path envisaged by the developers. You never reach the levels of freedom offered by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but still plenty of room is left for the player to unleash creativity.

An aspect that could make more than one player turn up their noses is the almost absence of fights, which in the main title were made very fun, but which in this first DLC are reduced to the bone to give space to tests and puzzles environmental, which we remember being the fulcrum of the experience. Precisely for this reason, even the few combat sections present are posed as challenges, even quite demanding. We will not therefore find ourselves having to simply eliminate our enemies, but the game will push us to do so following the rules: for example we are asked to kill 5 enemies by pushing them off a platform, or by sending back their bullets with a parry. Even from this point of view, therefore, Immortals Fenyx Rising: a New Divinity manages to pleasantly surprise.

An element that is missing, and that could have made the DLC even more replayable, is the possibility of improving yourself in passing the tests, perhaps with timed challenges with which to have fun beating your own record and, why not, the records of other players. online. Despite this, the title is still very long-lived (About 10 hours) also thanks to the complexity of some challenges for which it will take us several minutes to find the solution. Probably you could have cut parts of some stages that sometimes are slightly too long and risk boring. However, if not in these very rare phases, the game always manages to entertain without ever being excessively monotonous.

    A divine Olympus

Towering white columns with golden details rise to the top of the mountain, making it almost blinding to the eyes of an ordinary mortal. Fenyx's new adventure begins immediately with his arrival on the Mount of the Gods, and from the first moments we understand that we are in a place truly worthy of the Greek gods. The artistic side of the game world is truly amazing, even higher than what we found in the main game. From a purely graphic point of view, of course, we remain on the same standards as Immortals Fenyx Rising, with the possibility of choosing 4K with 30 fps or lower the quality to enjoy 60 fps (our advice remains to opt for the second possibility ).

Ubisoft has hit the mark again, with what could become a much larger brand in the future. With this first of three DLCs, the developers want to put us in front of demanding challenges that will allow us to get a place on Olympus. New abilities, new powers and new gameplay mechanics make Immortals Fenyx Rising: A New Deity always fun and almost never repetitive, despite the very small amount of combat. Too bad for the absence of timed challenges, which could have pushed us to break records and compare ourselves with other players online. But we can still be fully satisfied with this DLC, and we can't wait to try the next ones to find out how many other ways they can surprise us.
