The boys of Traveler's Tales e TT Games have brought their brick-built versions of many iconic sagas of the silver screen to many people's consoles: The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc. For some time, however, the LEGO e MARVEL it seems to have strengthened and four years after the first chapter it is making its debut on the market LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2.

After a good amount of hours spent among the superheroes in brick version, we are ready to give you our impressions.

WELCOME TO CHRONOPOLIS

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 begins "in medias res": catapult the player into the MARVEL world at the same speed as Iron Man takes flight, making him understand that not only do you want to keep the classic style of the LEGO franchise but that you want to try to create a total hybrid, drawing from the basket of the MARVEL Kinematic Universe. In this context, the narrative plots of the game intertwine: between film events and unpublished events, the protagonists will face various obstacles ready as always to save the universe. The incipit is still fun and intriguing, Kang evil conqueror of worlds, after an acrobatic clash with the Guardiani della galassia threatens the Earth, but Marvel superheroes will be ready to face him in every world and era. The powers of Kang therefore, allow the introduction into the game world of Chronopolis is a real open world place where you can play side activities and / or wander around with your favorite LEGO hero.

This feature objectively reduces the sense of routine that often occurs in games of this genre after only a few hours of play. However, this is not enough to increase the sense of the explorable world that probably was at the basis of the introduction of Chronopolis. In addition to the city, the focus of the activities remain the main missions of the story which also remain the most conservative experience of the whole game.

PICK, COLLECT AND SOLVE

In these three words we can bring together the concept of gameplay of the title. As we said above, the main missions, the fulcrum of the gaming experience, retain the style that each title of the LEGO franchise has offered to players. This which can be seen as a negative point, however, remains a shareable choice, as to support the surrounding innovations the game needed an established pillar to lean on.

As for the interaction and integration of the heroes with the game structure of the title, we would like to say that the variety proposed by the game and the meticulousness with which the characters have been reproduced, is truly commendable. Not only the most famous heroes, but even the less known have been treated in detail. Each of them allows the construction of complete teams, capable of making up for each other's shortcomings: thus forming a complementary and effective team in every situation. The difficulty of the game is not extremely high in general, it seemed to us a choice aimed at the very young target who benefits from the title in greater quantity. In short, collecting coins, solving puzzles and beating up enemies will give you the same sensations as always.

What instead, in addition to the aforementioned Chronopolis, constitutes the outline of the main missions is the possibility, once a mission is finished, to replay it freely, without character constraints to allow us to obtain all kinds of collectibles and secret present in the game environments. In fact, in each mission, certain secondary puzzles (save Stan Lee? Who said save Stan Lee?) Can be solved by specific heroes, who often will not be part of the main team with which you will face the mission the first time. Do not forget the possibility in the battle room of the Avengers refuge, to face clashes with other players locally or against the CPU; this offers the possibility to get to know each character better and to master their powers.

IRON MAN OR CAPTAIN AMERICA? BOTH OF THEM

In a discussion about MARVEL superheroes, one quickly and inevitably comes to the classic question: "Do you prefer Iron Man or captain America? " well LEGO Marvel Super Heores 2 answers this question with a fact: nearly 200 characters playable! So who cares about Captain America and Iron Man when you can play as Groot (baby and aduto), Shocker, Deadpool or Presence?

The large amount of characters and the different versions of them are certainly a big point in favor of the game, but an even more welcome feature is the ability to create up to 10 custom characters. These characters will not only be aesthetically customizable in every area, but you can choose powers, weapons and characteristics of the character. This system seemed very good to us and even deeper than we could have expected. As for the technical side, it is clear that the game does not make it a strong point but both the polygonal models of the characters and the environments are still very pleasant, this time more characterized and close to those seen in the MARVEL films.

“All in all you're just another brick in the wall”, or “you are just another brick in the wall”; so sang Pink Floyd and yet LEGO has always managed to avoid this feeling of already seen, of being just another LEGO brick. As well as the physical versions of the toys, this video game has also avoided being cataloged as yet another product of the saga: between main missions and activities in Chronopolis, players will still be able to keep busy for some time. We are probably not in front of the best title in the franchise, but surely LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 conquers its space in a market capable of sending a large amount of titles into the black hole of mediocrity.
