In the new effort by Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics, Marvel's Avengers, they are present in almost all the missions of the chests. Inside them there is some equipment. Not all chests release the best gear though (especially towards the end), the advice is to look for them and open them from the beginning of the adventure.
