Marvel's Avengers: Tested - Gamescom 2019

As you well know, the world of the Avengers is one of the most beautiful and amazing ever created in the history of comics and cinema, capable of grossing millions of dollars in just a few days. The Marvel heroes, in fact, have always conquered both adults and children for their deeds and their adventures and, after a few years, the aforementioned heroes are preparing to enter the world of video games with the new Marvel's Avengers. After officially announcing it during E3 in Los Angeles, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics take advantage of the Cologne event to present a first playable build of this mammoth title to the industry press.

Let's make a premise immediately: the demo available is the same one present at E3 2019 but, this time, it gave us the opportunity to fully understand some mechanics criticized during the Los Angeles fair.

    Marvel's Avengers: Tested - Gamescom 2019

The demo shown to us is amazing and full of action, putting us right from the first minute in comparison with the game setting and everything that surrounds it: our first playable character was Thor, who with his power and brutality annihilates any human being who tries to trample his cloak. The action doesn't stop there as soon as you complete the first character we took on the role of the legendary and timeless Iron Man: Using this character will be quite fun as it leads us to use a light but effective and satisfying air / ground tactic.

In the next round, we took on the role of the incredible and brutal Hulk who surprised us in an extraordinary way. The latter's approach is quite violent and full of strength: using this character we will happen to witness devastating combos and breathtaking scenes.

The most interesting turn comes when we will wear Captain America's shield who, with his beauty and elegance, is able to perform extraordinary combos: probably this remains the most interesting character of the demo available, capable of expressing its strength with an elegance that will surely leave you stunned.

When everything seems lost to us, we will see a somewhat "loved" character appear by the little boys fans of the Marvel saga: Black Widow will be the last playable character during this demo who will amaze with his hand-to-hand combat or with his inevitable firearms.

After reaching a certain amount of energy during the various fights, each character will be able to exploit his "hero power" which, often and willingly, will save your skin in the most critical situations: this power will unleash the wrath of the hero, managing to destroy a horde of enemies in no time.

It will be up to them to restore the disorder that sees this world now in pieces afflict; will they be able to address the criticism that violently hit the Square Enix title? According to us, Marvel's Avengers has all the potential to enter the Hall of Fame of video game history.

After trying the build available, we were able to attend the official presentation of the title with the art director of Crystal Dynamics, Scot Amos: during this interesting panel, some background unpublished to date was revealed to us. One of the novelties comes right on the front unlockable skills and abilities which, apparently, will be the protagonist in this mammoth adventure: the good Scot Amos has guaranteed us that the skills available will be almost infinite, confirming that "we will not get bored easily in the game menus".

The good news does not end here: character customization will be full of surprises and we will have the opportunity to wear a vast catalog of costumes dedicated to our favorite Avengers: the art director has confirmed that they are working hard to bring the maximum quality and quantity of costumes dedicated to every single character present in this new adventure.

The items available within Marvel's Avengers will be endless according to reports, some we will find during the missions within the game, while others will simply be collected during the fights or in the surrounding play area. The story of Marvel's Avengers will be completely original and will give us the opportunity to play it both solo and in co-op up to 4 people: the director did not want and could not go beyond this information, inviting us to stay connected in the coming months for more. information on the multiplayer sector of the title.

During the presentation, in conclusion, they revealed that there will be two types of missions, the Hero Missions and Warzone Missions: the first will be single-player missions that will allow us to advance in history using only one hero, while in the second we will be able to play one of the heroes that we will have unlocked during the adventure. During the latter it will be possible to play in co-op with three other players.

The developers have explained to us that these missions will serve not only to find better equipment for our Avengers, but they will help expand the narrative sector of the title for those who want to continue living the adventures of superheroes. In addition, a respectable post launch has been confirmed: the developer has confirmed its intention to add costumes, objects, new characters and much more. We believe there is all the potential to bring the title to the rankings that matter!

One of the things to change absolutely is the difficulty of the game which, at times, seemed too guided and simplified: we faced the final boss fight without "struggling" too much, it was enough for us to follow the instructions of the demo to complete the challenge in less than five minutes. We can instead appreciate the animation of the characters which, finally, turned out to be more natural and detailed: after the criticisms of E3, we can assure you that Crystal Dynamic has greatly improved the quality of the characters' faces.

This demo presented at Gamescom 2019 convinced us enough to confirm that the Square Enix title has all the credentials to be worthy of the name it bears. We remind you that Marvel's Avengers will be available starting next May 15, 2020 for the following platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia and PC.

The developers have not mentioned the Nintendo Switch version, but have confirmed that the small console from Nintendo is in the future projects of the software house in question.
