PlayStation 5: will we forget about PSVR?

If there is the insipid "war" between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X to populate the chats of many social networks during these days of limited stocks and exclusive missing in action, there is an idea, a destination, which seems to appear and disappear in fits and starts on the videogame stage is definitely the one linked to virtual reality.

The announcement of PlayStation 5 has exalted many, like all of this next-gen in the bud, but there is a feeling that does not seem to leave the "belly" of many players like many of us in the editorial office of faithful PSVR users, that is, one that makes us suspect that the VR front of PlayStation 5 is, although yet to be revealed, slightly too much in the background.

PlayStation 5: will we forget about PSVR?

Yes, we are the first to admit that the first PSVR absolutely is a jolt of cables and confusion, a user experience that we, even we aficionados, cannot avoid with a slight snort at the thought of all those cables to connect and things to move and configure, again and again.

VR, to date, is something as complex to set up as it is simple to experience, especially on PlayStation 5: sure, the backward compatibility of PlayStation 5 is practically total, but even just to make everything work you need an adapter to be joined to the old PlayStation 4 camera and that is not even compatible with all models.

The speech does not change with moving the talk to the controller, as the fantastic DualSense does not work with PSVR games, forcing the player to use the DualShock 4 or PSMove again.

PlayStation 5: will we forget about PSVR?

A second arrow on the knee is the fact that there are no PSVR games that, on PlayStation 5, run as a native app: No Man's Sky only works on PS4, the Hitman III VR experience will only work after running the free PS4 version, and there are sadly several other examples.

The third and final point is the age of the PSVR system: although the viewer itself is capable of surprising, the PSVR ecosystem relies too much on "old" tools, generation detachment that now, with PlayStation 5 in the homes of many, it is perceived even more.

The question remains: Does PSVR have a future?

For some time now there have been rumors of a probable PSVR 2 in development, a sign that perhaps this iteration will not go the same way as PS Vita, abandoned after the poor results obtained, and we are confident that the strong characteristics of PlayStation 5 could be an excellent springboard for "Bring" virtual reality back to the mainstream market, away from the costs of PC VR (and its complexity).
