Project Cars 2 - Review

Review for Project Cars 2. Game for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the video game was released on 22/09/2017

That Project Cars 2 would have been a creation propitiated by the lucky star of a software house, Slightly Mad Studios, for years engaged in the creation of excellent racing titles, was at least obvious. All the love for the world of four wheels is visible and tangible in every bit of the creature distributed by Bandai Namco, especially when the adrenaline rises and the speed crushes the back of the gamer on the hot seat of the motor competition.

Project Cars 2, ultimately, is a candidate as an encyclopedia of racing cars, winking at the world of competitions without quarter, covering almost every type of racing car known. But will it be true glory?

From the first screenshots of the game, it is understood how homo ludens can easily reach orgasm, simply by observing the gigantic amount of opportunities displayed on the screen. It is the usual embarrassment of choice: in front of him, the doors open to lead him straight to the visceral competition, both on the road and on dirt.

Very pleasant in single player, almost definitive in multiplayer, Project Cars 2 is one of the best racing games of the last two years. Point.

Although not free from defects, especially found in a damage reproduction system implemented in a not too satisfactory way and a rich career mode that can be schematized in a series of championships hardly able to satisfy the palate of the lonely runner, accustomed to narratively more engaging binary productions such as Toca or, more recently, F1 2017, however, the Slightly Mad Studios product is substantiated as a decisive step forward compared to what is released by the already prosperous prequel.

A very wide choice of cars, tracks and options leave little room for disappointment deriving from some negative aspects which, although annoying, do not affect the overall enjoyment deriving from the use of Project Cars 2.

The AI is better, the various weather conditions are represented with increased veracity both from a visual point of view and from a purely impacting one the behavior of the racing cars, and the significant improvements to the control system, aimed at a better use of the game through the pad, they sublimate an experience like the one expressed by Project Cars 2, conceived with the steering wheel perpetually in the head.

More generally, Project Cars 2 is an ode to moderate realism, an idea conveyed through physical routines and driving models that are permissive but not too much, especially in the event of the removal of the various electronic aids granted.

The Bandai Namco game is a land of conquest even for novice mechanical engineers, full of adjustments capable of significantly changing the road behavior of racing vehicles.

Technically, Project Cars 2 is genuinely enveloping, especially from a graphic point of view. In particular, in the version for PlayStation 4 Pro, the frame rate is anchored to 60 fps in 99% of cases. The polygonal models are complex, the textures defined, the panoramas detailed and reproduced with care.

The only unconvincing aspect is to be found in the sound effects, especially those of the braking, which take on the connotations of tender meows, rather than being brutal signs of metallic surfaces rubbing against each other.

Project Cars 2 - Review

Project Cars 2 is the umpteenth confirmation that in Slightly Mad Studios they know how to do it: the title reaches important qualitative peaks, improving compared to its predecessor in almost every sector. In fact, some defects still present do not succeed in diminishing the great work done, which projects the Bandai Namco production into the Olympus of racing that counts, especially thanks to the online, definitely complete and substantially infinite.
