Resident Evil 6 - Switch Review

Review for Resident Evil 6. Game for PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation Network, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, the video game was released on 02/10/2012 The version for PC came out on 22/03/2013 The version for Nintendo Switch came out on 29/10/2019 The version for PlayStation 4 came out on 29/03/2016 The version for Xbox One came out on 29/03/2016

In the long journey that led the Resident Evil series to reinvent itself partially (and with great success) in Resident Evil 7, there have been numerous intermediate steps that have helped to offer an overall panorama varied both in the mood and in the style of gameplay, also passing through reinterpretations - always faithful to the original - such as the excellent remake of Resident Evil 2 that we played earlier this year. Last week we got to talk to you about the Nintendo Switch version of Resident Evil 5. Today instead we focus on the older brother, Resident Evil 6, also landed on the Nintendo hybrid.

15 years after the events of Raccoon City, Leon Kennedy it is once again at the center of the facts narrated; or so it might seem at a quick glance, because the agent will be alone one of the 4 selectable in the different campaigns of the title, which will follow the stories of Chris, Jake and Ada.

The amount of content therefore, as it is reasonable to assume from the number of characters, significantly increases the longevity of the work, with different intertwining that will then go to unify in a single great path once you reach the end of the adventure. It is interesting to note how the different campaigns try to steer not too sharply too the types of gameplay, proposing an approach more similar to the often reasoned one of the first Resident Evils in Leon's history, showing instead the action side with Chris's story. All this produces an overall mixture with which, even today, it is difficult to catalog Resident Evil 6 with precision.

Where Resident Evil 6 on Switch stands out instead in a decisive way and can give satisfactions is the multiplayer component: this chapter also focuses clearly on the Cooperative mode, expendable both offline and online, allowing to benefit from that greater variety guaranteed by the collaboration with a human being and not with an artificial intelligence of which, often, the various shortcomings and problems in the implementation jump to the eye, although in this Resident Evil 6 we notice clear steps forward compared to the AI of Resident Evil 5.

The various changes made to the user interface, which often appear, are anything but comfortable too complex and not too comfortable, with a really full-bodied command screen and perhaps difficult to memorize immediately, together with an inventory management different from the canons of the series and often too artificial.

From the point of view of the technical performance, moreover, Resident Evil 6 shows good levels both in dock and in portable mode, together with an even greater solidity than that of Resident Evil 5: frame rate drops are sporadic but present, while in the split-screen modes the console struggles more, still providing an appreciable experience overall.

The problems instead jump to the eye in the split screen modes in case you decide to use the Joy-Con as controller: the maybe excessive presence of quick-time events scattered throughout the work undermines the comfort of users, already struggling with controllers not born and not suitable for use in multiplayer in the world of shooters. In any case, everything is a shareable and enjoyable compromise in its own way, since it guarantees the possibility to play where, when and how you prefer, not just factors especially if coupled with the Joy-Con motion sensors, capable of providing different feedback, still giving satisfactions.

From the main menu we can therefore both advance in our campaign, and decide to enter the customized games of others, all of which can be created with rules and modes that can be customized in detail and playable both in single and with the help of real players.

In addition to the aforementioned campaign, you can have fun with seven different modes, in which you can, in addition to the classic role of a human being, interpret that of enemy creatures, perhaps entering another player's game and trying to hinder him in a way not rendered in the best way but undoubtedly original.

Resident Evil 6 - Switch Review

With Resident Evil 6, players on Nintendo Switch will have a title full of content available, with a good quality for those who know how to compromise with the action part of the work. The porting to the Nintendo Switch is all in all satisfying and the ability to play a title in portable mode that many want to play again - or try for the first time - is still a factor to be taken into account.
