After The Last of Us Part 2 literally hoarded 2020 Game Awards nominations, North American broadcaster HBO followed suit by giving officially the start of the production of the TV series dedicated to The Last of Us, Naughty Dog's post apocalyptic game.

The broadcaster will join forces with Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Word Games and of course Naughty Dog itself. It is confirmed that N, writer and creative director of The Last Of Us and The Last Of Us: Part II, will work on the project alongside Craig Mazin (Chernobyl), not forgetting Carolyn Strauss (Chernobyl, Game of Thrones). The first two are estimated, as we have had the opportunity to note in previous news.

HBO Vice President Francesca Orsi said in the announcement about it:

Craig and Neil are visionaries. With them at the helm, alongside Carolyn Strauss, this series is sure to appeal to fans of The Last of Us, both old and new. We are happy to work together in order to adapt an epic and exciting story.

According to the official synopsis, the series will focus on the events of the first chapter, which sees Joel and Ellie flee the red zone and observe firsthand the effects of Cordyceps, a fungus that has devastated the United States.

The TV series had been on the program since March when it was announced, and its episodic nature bodes well for Troy Baker, aka Joel in the mother play. There are no hints about the actors or a launch date for the first episode, but it's clear how HBO intends to move forward until the project hits screens.
