After the eclectic first years of life, Croteam has been linked over time to a single series: we are talking about Serious Sam, of which we await the fourth chapter next year. the talos principle was born during the making of Serious Sam 4, when the Croatian team starts experimenting with interactive scenarios, creating levels that are too complex for the gameplay that has always characterized its brainless FPS saga.

The game has already received support on PC, PlayStation 4 and (to a lesser extent) on Android and iOS, to finally land finally even on Xbox One, with the port that we are now going to examine.

But first let's quickly review the features of the game, referring you to our review of the PlayStation 4 version for a more in-depth examination.

The Talos Principle is a puzzle game designed to be played in first person, although several third person views are available designed to overcome the problems of motion sickness (which we ourselves have encountered, albeit in a slight way, Ed). The objective of the game is to collect the seals (which have the shapes of the Tetris tetrominoes), each of which is kept in a different level. The proposed puzzles are mainly based on research anduse of one or more jammers, devices capable of inhibiting enemies and machine gun turrets and canceling force fields which prevent access to some areas. Clearly, in the rest of the game, other variables will be available, such as the presence of switches and a device capable of creating a replica of our avatar with which to "cooperate" (for example, it could hold a button down for a few moments).

The puzzles - which some may find repetitive in the long run - aren't the only appeal of The Talos Principle, which also features an intriguing three-ending storyline written by Tom Jubert (known for the Penumbra series and The Swapper) and Jonas Kyratzes, who combines metaphysics, transhumanism and robotics. The story then evolves with the DLC which we will talk about very soon, but we do not want to anticipate anything. It is accompanied by a suggestive artistic direction, which offers us mysterious Greek-Roman ruins set in natural contexts full of charm.

The Talos Principle - Xbox One Review

The port for Xbox One, just like the Deluxe Edition released on PlayStation 4 three years ago, contains not only the full-bodied main game, which has over 120 puzzles, but also theRoad to Gehenna expansion (costing € 14,99 on Steam), which adds more than twenty new puzzles, without introducing new gameplay. Overall, therefore, the game could remain on your console for at least twenty hours, which can increase considerably for completists.

On a technical level the port was done properly, so that we have not encountered new technical problems compared to previous versions of the game (originally released in 2014, let's remember), which is more striking for the artistic direction than for the "brute force" of the technical sector. The graphics options allow you to choose whether to sacrifice the level of detail in favor of fluidity or vice versa. The title has also been optimized for Xbox One X, with 4K resolution support.

The Talos Principle was offered at the high introductory price of € 49,99 on the Microsoft Store, but is discounted at 20% until September 14. Unfortunately, unlike the release on PlayStation 4, a retail version has not been made, which currently also constitutes the by far the cheapest option to fuire the work of Croteam.

The Talos Principle - Xbox One Review

The Talos Principle proves to be a great puzzle game on Xbox One too, but we had little doubt about it. With the sequel likely out next year, anyone who hasn't gotten their hands on the game yet should definitely be tempted.
