At the end of March, it appeared on the European markets there remastered version for PlayStation 4 di The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel, already available in Europe from 2016 on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita and from 2017 on PC. As we saw in its time, predictably it turned out to be the best version of Nihon Falcom Corporation's work. Now, as we have known for almost a year now, it's up to Trails of Cold Steel II, waiting for the third chapter, which should arrive - exclusively on PlayStation 4 as far as we know now, but we believe a late port for PC is likely - in the West at the end of 2019. Regarding the fourth (and last) episode, it was not No announcement yet made, but localization is likely to be expected in 2020.

On the other hand, Marvelous certainly cannot leave the saga without an epilogue!

This version of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II has the identical features of the PlayStation 4 version (in turn similar to those of the PC version) of the first Trails of Cold Steel, reviewed just over two months ago. On a technical level, we have the usual outdated graphics (which could well have been supported by Wii) polished, with frame rate increase (60 FPS) and resolution (up to 4K) and reduction of aliasing (the much hated "scalettature") and loading times. The sound has been expanded: the English dubbing has been increased and, above all, the original Japanese one has been added, a feature that has always been coveted by most JRPG fans and increasingly present in localizations.

The option also returns Transfer to play with the saves of the PS3 and PS Vita versions (which are cross-saves), to which this time the clear data loading options of the first chapter (whatever version you have), which guarantee some bonuses: in particular, depending on Rean's level and Academic Rank, the player will receive different amounts of Sepith and different accessories and Quartz; in addition, there will be extra dialogues (not that everyone feels the need, with an already very verbose script of its own, Ed) with allies and NPCs. On the other hand, the only thing that really carries over from game to game is the extra costume set. Finally, there is also the option Memory, which allows you to see the videos and the final bonding events, always uploading a clear data.

Those who have not faced the first chapter can use a summary and a file containing all the main characters, but We strongly advise you not to start Trails of Cold Steel II without completing the first one: these options (under the heading “Backstory”) serve as a review and not as a replacement.

Even in terms of content, the speech is completely similar to that made on the occasion of the review of the predecessor: the "only" extras are given by the over one hundred DLCs, which are not very interesting, since they are objects (not too rare or powerful) and costumes.

As for the game in and of itself, we refer you to the in-depth examination carried out by good Salvo on the occasion of the release of the title on PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. Here we limit ourselves to recalling some of the salient features of a second chapter which, however, must necessarily resemble the first for themes, gameplay and assets (there are not many new locations), except for the school structure, also abandoned for plot reasons. First, the overdrive mode has been added, which further increases the benefits of the Link System.

In addition, the Divine Knight system has been implemented, which already appeared in the final of the first chapter: it is, in essence, battles between mecha to be won by hitting specific parts of the armor. Finally, the Orbment system has also been tweaked, since now the sepith are used not so much to unlock, but to upgrade the slots, in order to equip even better quartz.
