In Until Dawn it is possible to ensure that all eight protagonists arrive safe and sound until dawn. It is possible, but certainly very complex in the first game. Being duly attentive to the spoilers that you will inevitably encounter, follow this guide to ensure that no character dies during the long night of the game developed by Supermassive Games exclusively for PlayStation 4.
Please note:: the following guide is full of spoilers. In order not to ruin the experience, we strongly recommend that you complete the game and use our solution only later, replaying the chapters of your interest to watch any alternative endings.
CHAPTERS 1 TO 4
Unlike what it seems, the choices to be made during the first four chapters of the game are not all that dangerous for the life of the characters. Simply choose to rescue Ashley in the circular saw scene and successfully complete the quick time events as Mike when he is chasing Jessica's kidnapper. The girl will fall and appear dead, but as suggested by one of the luck totems you will find her battered but alive and well in the final stages of the game.
CHAPTER 5
As Mike, you freely choose whether to examine the mechanical hand or not. If you get caught by it, don't cut your fingers but use the machete to force the trap. Afterwards, pet the wolf and give him a bone collected from the chest near the altar of the sanatorium chapel.
CHAPTER 6
Part 1
As Matt, don't hit the deer but walk through them. If you accidentally make a mistake don't worry: even killing the last deer Matt will be pushed off the cliff but will be saved by clinging to a ledge.
Taking control of Emily, climb to the top of the radio tower and turn the power back on with the differential at the top, outside the room. Pick up the flare gun and give it to Matt, who will use it immediately, then go back inside and call the rescuers on the radio.
Having regained control of Matt, once the tower collapsed, choose first to rescue Emily and then to save yourself. The tower will collapse but both boys will be saved (even if given the temper of the girl, Matt in hindsight would have probably preferred to fall into the cliff).
Part 2
Make sure Ashley collects the scissors in the basement after seeing the ghost and examining the dollhouse. Use them almost immediately to save Chris from the psycho.
In the next scene, in the role of Chris, let the time run out without shooting either Chris or Ashley: in doing so the saw will stop and both boys will be saved (especially you will save Chris who, later, will be rescued by Ashley) .
CHAPTER 8
Part 1
Successfully complete the quick time events to allow Emily to escape the monsters. At the crossroads you can go both left and right, in both cases you will have to face some qte and remain motionless on the elevator. On the conveyor belt, choose to get off as soon as you can. At the end of the session Emily will be bitten by the Wendigo but will be saved.
Part 2
Successfully complete the quick time events as Chris to get him to the cabin, where Ashley (whom you previously decided not to shoot at) will rescue you by opening the door at the last moment.
At the end of the chapter you will have to decide, in the role of Mike, whether to shoot Emily or leave her alive: obviously opt for the second hypothesis and leave the girl alive (don't worry, she won't transform).
CHAPTER 9
Part 1
As you make your way through the sanatorium as Mike successfully complete quick time events and shoot monsters and bins to clear your way. If you do everything correctly the wolf will be saved, otherwise he will die to help you. In both cases, as well as if you miss the final qte, Mike will be saved: in the second case you will have to help him with Sam, in the first the young man will kill the monsters alone and rejoin the girl outside the mine.
Part 2
Take Ashley down the drain with the other boys. Don't follow Jess's voice but rejoin the group and move on or Ashley will be killed by the Wendigo.
Part 3
Climb the wall with Sam: once at the top, if Mike needs help you will have to pick up the shovel and go to his rescue, otherwise you will find him already there waiting for you.
CHAPTER 10
Part 1
Get in the water with Sam and Mike and, before continuing, collect the vital clue that a little later will save Josh.
Part 2
Successfully complete the quick time events to allow Matt and Jess to successfully escape the monsters. When the game asks, choose to hide and stand still to save both boys.
Part 3
Get Mike and Josh into the water. If you have Sam collect the vital clue as noted above, Josh will not die in this scene.
Part 4
Go down to the cinema room and rejoin the group. Close the door to slow the monsters advance and return upstairs. Stand perfectly still or you will be killed; when you have to choose, never run to the switch but help Mike by allowing him to break the light bulb. Continue by choosing not to touch the switch: this will allow everyone to escape outside. The last to leave the chalet will be Mike who, by turning on the switch, will kill the remaining monsters and rejoin the others, while help arrives by helicopter.
