Pokémon Sword and Shield - Changing the weather in the Wilderness

Pokémon Sword and Shield - Changing the weather in the Wilderness

Tired of waiting for the right weather conditions to catch rare Pokémon in the Wilderness in Pokémon Sword and Shield? This guide is for you.

In the Wilds of Galar, there is no place for all Pokémon at the same time, which is why some creatures will only show up when it rains or when there is a sandstorm. This is the case of two exclusive Pokémon, Deino and Larvitar, respectively of Sword and Shield, which have the possibility of appearing when one rains and when the other is sunny. But what should you do if you are unlucky and the ideal weather never arrives, you wait? Obviously it's an alternative, but there is another way to speed up the process a lot: manipulate time.

First of all you need to know that the weather resets every day at midnight, this according to the internal clock of the Nintendo Switch. To change the time in the Wilderness, therefore, you will need to change the time on your console to a specific date, which will magically give the desired weather conditions.

To change the date and time on Nintendo Switch the path is this: Options> System> Date and Time

    • Normal: 1 May 2020
    • Cloudy: 1 March 2020
    • Rain: 1 October 2020
    • Snow: 1 December 2020
    • Hailstorm: 1 February 2020
    • Intense sun: 1 July 2020
    • Sand storm: 1 April 2020
    • Fog: June 1 2020

Fog is a new climatic condition that is unlocked only after defeating Dandel, the champion of the Pokémon League of Galar and allows you to find new Pokémon such as Mimikyu or Sylveon.

To give a practical example, let's pretend we want to capture Deino, who, as we said, pops up in Lake Dragofuria only when it rains and with a 2% probability. If it hasn't rained for several days, it is possible to bring a downpour to the Wild Lands simply by setting the date to 1 October 2020 in the Nintendo Switch options and start looking for the Dragon-type Pokémon.

To find out what weather a particular Pokémon is approaching, just have met it, check the Pokédex in the Habitat section and look at the various colored icons at the top. Starting from the left, the first icon symbolizes normal, cloudy weather conditions and so on following the order written above. The last symbol refers to the water Pokémon that can be fished at any time.

One final clarification before leaving you with Pokémon Sword and Shield: mind you changing the date will have other effects on the game, specifically to regrow the berries on the plant and above all to report the future date in the information of the captured Pokémon. A small price to pay for not waiting for days without favorable weather conditions.
