The new chapter of the beloved movie saga Cars has been out in America for a few months now, but in Spain its first screening in theaters took place only the 14 September, a date that also marks the release of the console video game of the same name, Cars 3: In the race for victory.

Become a champion!

Cars 3: Race for Victory is set after the final race of the Cars 3 movie and it offers many modes that will allow you to play together with characters we already know, but also with new faces. Players will be able to get behind the wheel and embark on action-packed adventures by joining Lightning McQueen and Cruz Ramirez to prepare to challenge the rival Jackson Storm.

The modes are many and are mainly based on unlocking skills that will allow you to access more prestigious and difficult events. To check your progress, simply go to the Hall of Fame, which will allow you to check your stats and remaining objectives (in total 136) to become a Hall of Fame worthy driver. Unfortunately, there is no real plot, and therefore a campaign, limiting the game to individual races, which are still very interesting and fun.

As soon as the game starts, the only available mode will be “Events”, which will allow you to compete in more than 20 tracks and 13 tracks inspired by the film, and thanks to which you can start improving your driving skills for the following events. In the events section there is not only the "races" mode, but there will be many other fun variations, including:

  • Automotive Challenge: use weapons and other tools to annoy your opponents.
  • Stunt Show: score points by performing as many aerial stunts as possible.
  • Elimination: cCollect weapons and score points by taking down as many crazy karts as possible.
  • Best Lap Challenge: race against your best time to set a new lap record.
  • Events for experts: prove to be unbeatable in every event by competing against the best.

Many hours of fun

In Cars 3: In the race for the win you will have many things to do to have fun, both alone and in company, in fact the "Sponsored team play”Which will allow you to play with your friends in split screen mode.

Among the other game modes we also find:

  • Cups: will allow you to participate in competitions according to your abilities. The cups are in fact divided by level of difficulty - Beginner, Professional, Champion - and are also divided by game mode. There will then be cups for the classic races, cups for the elimination mode, and so on.
  • Thomasville stunt track: you will be set free in a gigantic map, full of ramps, power-ups and many challenges that will allow you to unlock rewards, but also to hone your driving skills to defeat your friends in all present modes.

The activities to be carried out in Cars 3: In the race for victory are numerous, but after a few hours of play you will begin to feel a sense of repetition that could end your gaming experience. During our games we have thoroughly searched the title and realized that its greatest value remains the local multiplayer, which allows you to organize customized tournaments.

Nice and fun gameplay

Obviously we cannot leave out the gameplay and above all the technical side of the game, which have many points in favor but also some points against. From a technical point of view the game is good: both the tracks and the cars are detailed and well made, and also the effects of the nitrous and weapons are very pleasant to look at, greatly accentuating the fun during the races.

Speaking of the gameplay instead, we can be partially satisfied: the driving system is very simplified and often it is extremely easy to win, even at maximum difficulty. In addition to normal driving, there are various features that make racing more hectic, such as jumps, running in reverse or on two wheels. An essential resource is represented by the turbo, which can be obtained by drifting and stunts, or by collecting the jerry cans that you will find on your way. In the various tracks there will also be areas in which it will be necessary to do particular actions (for example drifting, going in reverse and so on) that will allow us to obtain turbo bonuses, essential to have some more chance to beat our opponents.

We did not like the drift system, which is practically automatic, and is limited to the press of a single button. However, we were able to accept this simplification: on the other hand, the system works and is therefore usable also by most of the smaller players, who can have fun without being faced with a too complex system.

Cars 3: Race to Win - Review

Cars 3: In the race for the win is a valid product, mainly suitable for a young audience and lover of the series. The game seemed very fun and complete, both in the gameplay and in the modes: you can, in fact, participate in many events and cups, and, above all, you will have the opportunity to play in the company of your friends directly from your living room. However, there are some defects, such as the absence of a real plot, or the extreme simplification of the guide, which is however compensated by various additions, such as the weapons, the turbo and the stunts, which make the adrenaline and fun experience for young and old.
