Dark Souls - Boss Guide: Quelaag, the Chaos Witch

Dark Souls - Boss Guide: Quelaag, the Chaos Witch

The ruthless beauty of Dark Souls (and all its sequels) manifests itself, in an even more marked and direct way, through the face and deeds of the numerous bosses present within the game. Beauty, then, is a mandatory adjective for the next boss in question, whose appearance (marred by a horrible curse) embodies all the horror told by FromSoftware. Once you have passed the Hungry Dragon and arrived at the Infamous City, before you can ring the second Bell, you will have to face Quelaag, the Chaos Witch.

    Strategy and useful advice

The first piece of advice we would like to give you is to learn his patterns, pay attention to his movements and learn to dodge his shots effectively. The boss performs attacks that deal physical damage and fire damage, and some of his hits are lethal in most cases, so dodging rather than trying to parry is convenient. As soon as the battle begins, the beautiful Witch / spider will perform the leap and spit lava, so try to get close to her, or you will already be at a disadvantage. Try to be patient and attack it when it throws up lava, because it is very fast and if you attack it at the wrong time it could make you pay dearly. Also try to stay to the side, walking away at the right time (when it lifts its legs or when it stops throwing up). For those who are more used to this type of games we have an "additional advice": try to hit the human part of his body, and more precisely the head, because, by doing so, you will stun it for a few moments. Also keep in mind one other thing: don't go into the lava, because not only will you take a lot of damage but you will also be immobilized.

Remember that the Witch is immune to fire and vulnerable to magic. If you need help in the fight, you can invoke the spirit of Mildred the Cannibal, who will act as a "skull decoy" for Qeelaag.

    Attacks

    • Spit Lava - The Witch will spit some lava pools
    • Sword - slash that Quelaag strikes with his weapon: best avoided, unless you have a shield with a high fire resistance
    • Lunge - beam of fire that the Witch makes with her sword, with a long range: even here it is advisable to try to avoid it by rolling to the side
    • Lava Vomit - Quelaag will throw up pools of lava, which will remain on the floor: you can move to its sides, but be careful to escape in time if she leans on the spider's head, as it will make an explosion with a large area of effect
    • Jump and spit lava - the Witch jumps towards you and spits lava: try to avoid it, otherwise you will find yourself at the mercy of her slits and surrounded by lava
    • Stomp - raises the legs to either side and puts them back on the ground forcefully
    • Explosion - attack that it makes after spitting out lava, when it rests on the spider's head: it is an extremely harmful attack and it is advisable to get away in time, since, unless you really have a lot of life, it is a lethal blow
    • Splash of Fire - Rare attack by Quelaag, which sees her send several fireballs out of her body and then explode; the signal that this attack is about to make is that it is wagging its tail: if it does, leave immediately

Dark Souls - Boss Guide: Quelaag, the Chaos Witch

“In the age of the ancients the world was amorphous and shrouded in fog, then came fire and with it diversity”. With these words Dark Souls begins, illustrating - briefly - what we will face once we have begun our crossing in that of Lordran. The narrating voice continues like this: "Then, from the darkness they came, and they found the Souls of the Lords in the flames", informing us of the existence of four great beings who, at the time, decided to challenge the dragons, giving life to the so-called Age of Fire.

Among these beings was the so-called Izalith witch who, together with her numerous daughters, the "Daughters of Chaos", gave birth to a forbidden and obscure ritual, thus condemning herself and all the others to a fate even more cruel than death. One of these, Quelaag, the Chaos Witch, in fact, represents one of the most fascinating bosses of the game, located in the lower part of the dreaded Infamous City to protect the second Awakening Bell. She who was once a splendid maiden has now, while retaining some of her features, has now become a scary-looking creature whose lower body is made up of a kind of giant fire-breathing spider. A terrible punishment for having dared to challenge a greater power, of course, which has condemned not only her but also all her sisters. Two of them are located very close to the place you can find Quelaag, which represents a kind of desire to protect each other: Quelagg is preceded by Quelana (the only one of the sisters to have escaped the curse), which asks the player to free his sister from eternal torment; Quelaag, on the other hand, precedes Quelan, whose defenseless and sick body precedes the nefarious entrance at Ruins of the Demon, hidden behind an illusory wall and watched over by one of her servants.

The creature, therefore, presents itself with an imposing narrative background, albeit apparently miserable, which manages to remain in the mind, precisely for the cruelty and for an underlying nostalgia for a story at the limits, even by the standards of Dark Souls.
