West Virginia in Fallout 76 is largely inhabited by radiation-mutated creatures and monsters of all kinds, but the most interesting come from American folklore. The Appalachian Mountains areaIn fact, gave rise to a large group of legends from both the culture of the natives and the cultural climate of the fifties and sixties of the twentieth century. The two best known, among those inserted by Bethesda in Fallout 76, are the Mothman (of which you can find our guide) and the monster of Flatwoods. Each of these monsters can be found in specific areas, as they are not just enemies like classic ghouls. The Flatwoods Monster, which can be recognized thanks to features such as its slender body and a kind of purple helmet, can appear in several variations.
You can come across the creature by wandering near Abbie's Bunker (north east of Appalachia), north of Morgantown Airport and near the river where Dyer Chemical is located.
The monster, however, does not always appear and could manifest itself in the non-hostile version exactly as in the one that will attack you instead. The quiet version of the creature cannot be killed, as it will use teleportation to escape your hits, while the hostile monster can be eliminated, although this is by no means an easy task. Just like his harmless counterpart, he will use teleportation, but use it to sneak around and hit you.
In order to save your skin and win the fight it is advisable to try to have the creature always in your field of vision, in order to avoid the laser beams that will turn against you.
Once you have killed the Flatwoods monster you can loot the corpse and see if it has any useful items, but it is good to remember it is possible to meet some other examples (even of the same type). Recall that Microsoft has decided to include Fallout 76 within the Xbox Game Pass catalog.
