The new edition
These new objects are scattered throughout the map and there are supposed to be 79, this is because so far only 70 of these coins have been found, so the only clue that suggests the exact number of coins is a line in the titles of which he thanks "The Nomadic Colossus and the 79 steps towards enlightenment (Enlightenment) ". Therefore, there is not even the certainty that these collectibles can unlock something, there are theories on what can happen once they have all been found, there is talk of a new object or a new Colossus but both still seem unlikely.
In fact, the special objects are all related to the time attack mode, while the thought that there may be a new Colossus seems unlikely, considering how this remake was not curated by Team Ico but by Bluepoint. Bluepoint should have had the authority to put totally original assets into the product, which seems implausible even though they had the backing of Sony.
The question then arises, how can these coins be found?
There is no map available in game indicating their location, so you have to search for it the old fashioned way, exploring the entire map from start to finish. The game, however, provides you with clues, if the player is near a golden coin, a rattle can be heard coming from the controller's microphone. This means that you are very close. We must therefore look for a visual clue, a golden shimmer near the position where the tinkling was heard.
There are coins near all the battles of the Colossi, so it's best to start there. Once you have returned to the battle sites, you have to look for towers, small islands in areas with ponds or hidden caves. Furthermore, it will be necessary to leave the pre-built paths and leave the trusted Argo behind. In fact it will be possible to find coins in high places that will require long climbs. We recommend beating the game at least once before embarking on the search for gold coins, this is because a lot of stamina will be required and having the improved statistics from having beaten all the giants certainly helps.
You will also not be able to see the gold coins in your inventory but they will be visible in the lower left corner of the map.
Using the reddit user map Riku7Kun it is possible to track at least 57 of the 79 coins. But remember how these collectibles are still hidden, once you get to the place you will have to sift the map. A complete map with all 79 coins is expected in the next few days and hopefully an answer to the mystery of what these unlock.
