Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Legacy - Review

First released way back in October 1999, Naruto was definitely a manga that formed a generation. With an ending published between 2014 and 2015, the series has not yet said everything and is continuing, through a new designer, with the story of Boruto, the son of the protagonist, who has to deal with the problems of having a Hokage father. . Of course, like all Shonen Jump manga that have a rather high longevity like Dragon Ball or One Piece, Naruto enjoyed a large number of video games dedicated to it, which culminated in the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm saga on Playstation 3 and Playstation 4.

If on Playstation 3 we had the first three chapters plus the two "fillers" Generations and Revolution, on Playstation 4 we enjoyed the finale of the series with Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 and later with the DLC that tells the deeds of Boruto in the film a it dedicated (which then ends up being the first saga of his manga). Now that the circle has closed, Bandai Namco offers us a complete collection of all remastered games for Playstation 4.

    Four games in one

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Legacy consists of two parts: "Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy"Which includes the first three Playstation 3 chapters remastered for the current generation console and including all DLC, and"Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 - Road to Boruto”Which would be the fourth chapter including the aforementioned DLC with the story of Naruto's son. To tell the truth there is not much more to say in all of this, since the gameplay of each of these games has not been retouched in the slightest: we only find improvements on the models and textures of the old titles, but nothing more. This means that by replaying the first Storms, we will find without possibility of escape many of the imbalances that were so criticized at the time (Deidara on Storm 2 is still a nightmare for many), and of course the roster of characters is limited to the point of the story it reaches. each of the games.

The only reason why it may actually be worth replaying the old chapters is precisely the story mode, since each of the games retraces a very specific narrative arc without making summaries or references, just as if they were episodes of an anime to be played one in a row. to the other. Beyond that, credit must be given to fantastic Adventure mode, which has always allowed us to explore the Konoha Village, accepting numerous side missions and letting us talk to all the various characters, as well as hiding a large number of collectibles to unlock a lot of content such as collectible cards, dioramas, or videos of the special techniques of each fighter. Obviously, however, the negative sides also resurface, such as the terrible narrative of the story mode of the first game of Ultimate Ninja Storm, limited to a written context rather than to cutscenes or movies.

    Improvements and nonsense

As for the technical sector, every single game in the quadrilogy boasted graphics and a soundtrack that could not be criticized in any way. CyberConnect2 have always been magicians in proposing anime in the videogame field, using a cell shading that showed on-screen models and animations of the characters that appeared to come out of the anime, but with even better quality.

In this remastered version, a great job has been done in trying to bring the old chapters as close as possible to the quality of Storm 4, while the soundtrack and the English and Japanese voiceovers have remained the same as they used to be. obviously all 4 games have new trophies to collect on Playstation, but we found it totally pointless to keep the online battle trophies for the first trilogy.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Legacy - Review

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Legacy re-proposes all 4 chapters of Naruto video games to offer us the complete story, including all the DLCs. Although the initiative is interesting, we find it difficult that some fans do not already own these games, or in any case, if you have a Playstation 4, it is very likely that you want to replay the first 3 chapters but the fourth is already in your collection. Bandai Namco also thinks of these people, giving the possibility to purchase Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy as a separate solution from the Legacy. The restoration work is great and the Playstation 3 trilogy arrives on the current console with all its pros and cons, but the promised work has been done well and we couldn't have expected anything more.
