Omen Exitio: Plague - Nintendo Switch Review

Review for Omen Exitio: Plague. PC game, the video game came out on 05/03/2018

There was a time when the spread of videogame media was the prerogative of a select few and in any case no title was able to make adventures live as much as a good book or a good film. Youtube was not widespread, there was neither Facebook nor Whatsapp and not even mobile phones offered that sort of hypnotic entertainment that today is a reality to be reckoned with. When the summer came, we boys had to deal with the dead times of life, today almost a ghost from which to escape. Precisely in those long and boring afternoons a fantastic instrument came to our aid but unfortunately today has been forgotten: the Game-Book. For those "few" who do not know what it is, the Game-Books were real novels in which the reader was called to make choices that changed the story, sometimes even radically.

Do you want to know why this nostalgic incipit? Simple. Today we are going to analyze Omen Exitio: Plague, already released for PC and now also available on Nintendo Switch.

Omen Exitio: Plague narrates the exploits of Jake Huntington, a young doctor but already put to the test by life in a world of the late 800th century geographically located between London and Zanzibar. On the run from a past that has the form of the ghost of a wife who died of an evil that our protagonist has not been able to remedy, Jake decides to enlist in the army of Her Majesty the Queen of England. Driven by the will to escape London and its ghosts he decides to serve his country in his war on the borders of the farthest colonies, hoping to satisfy a desire to leave it all behind and eager to face death face to face.

But we know that ghosts are not easy to forget and our protagonist finds himself involved not only in war but also in a horror and distressing imagery that fishes with both hands from the basin of madness and disease typical of the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft. And just like HP, here too the protagonist will have to deal with man's ancestral fears and will have to face them if he wants to get out of them alive, possibly without losing his reason.

As we said before, the reference of the Tiny Bull Studios team fishes with both hands in the Books-Game basin. Just like for those paper reliquaries in fact we will arrive, in the course of reading, the possibility of making choices that will affect the very plot of Omen Exitio: Plague. It will not be just an “accept / reject this option” or, but we will have to decide the behavior of the protagonist.

Often these choices will lead to a real modification of the physical and mental characteristics of the protagonist which in turn will affect the unfolding of the story. Unfortunately, this mechanism leads psychologically to decide what to do not only based on the plot but also on the reward we will get. However, this does not affect Omen Exitio: Plague's ability to thrill.

It will also always be possible to consult a complete and accurate travel diary that will keep track of all the information found during the adventure for us. In fact, with a complex and scary plot, it becomes easy to forget about small details that can make the difference, but thanks to such a complete game menu all this will not be a problem. The adventure of Omen Exitio: Plague leads to five different endings based on the choices made and it will take you around six hours to complete a reading.

Unfortunately, the portability screen of the small Nintendo Switch could have been better exploited, since reading is not exactly the simplest: an option to enlarge the characters would have been welcome. Fortunately, the points against this title stop there.

Omen Exitio: Plague - Nintendo Switch Review

The graphic adventure of Omen Exitio: Plague is well narrated and engaging, which is truly commendable when you consider that the entire work narrated is the result of a very young development team. Proud to belong to the city of the development team - Turin in fact - the writer realizes the difficulty of bringing a product like this to today's landscape to confront famous titles that boast granite FPS and breathtaking graphics.

In the same way, the entire editorial staff of Epic Videogames Guide is in agreement in defining the story writing work as excellent, which must know how to involve and thrill while remaining faithful to a dark, distressing, sick and terror-filled atmosphere. Omen Exitio: Plague succeeds in all of this.

Omen Exitio: Plague is a Game-Book, or rather a Game-Book. A well-narrated and engaging graphic adventure that manages to carve out a large slice of admirers in a landscape where HD and framerate are the masters. The player or more than anything else the reader gets involved and you are able to enjoy a mature, frightening and anguished plot that slips away page after page. The Turin team of Tiny Bull Studios deserves an applause for their courage and achievement.
