Redeemer: Enhanced Edition - Review

Review for Redeemer: Enhanced Edition. Game for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the video game was released on 25/06/2019

Violent, very angry, muscular, bald and bearded. We are talking about the now more than legendary Kratos? This time the exterminator of Gods has nothing to do, because we are referring to Vasyli, the "monk" protagonist of Redeemer: Enhanced Edition!

Redeemer: Enhanced Edition is a brawler game developed by the Russians of Sobaka Studio and distributed by Good shepherd entertainment. The original version of the game saw the light about a year ago on PC, while the one we are reviewing is the improved edition of the game, coming out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One e Nintendo Switch just these days.

As per tradition for this type of games, the plot of Redeemer: Enhanced Edition does not exactly shine for complexity and originality: Vasyli, our stout and bald protagonist, after years and years of clashes and massacres as a mercenary in the pay of an evil private security agency, decides to radically change his life, disgusted by the cybernetic policies of his former employers, retreating to meditate in a peaceful monastic community lost on some unknown high mountain range.

After a thousand days of meditation and asceticism, however, Vasyli's past returns to ask for the account of his actions, and the monastery finds itself under attack by the same former comrades of our good bald crapa. Needless to say, Vasyli does not really like it, so much so that he gives free rein to his anger and dormant thirst for blood. As mentioned, the plot is basically just a mere pretext to lead our hands, and in Redeemer: Enhanced Edition we will do it very heavily!

Redeemer: Enhanced Edition - Review

The game immediately catapults us into the most frenetic action, where we will control Vasily who, despite his latest spiritual twist, is and remains a fearsome, well-oiled war machine. Expert in multiple and lethal martial arts, our warrior monk has the basic ability to massacre opponents through lethal (but very easy to use) combos of devastating kicks and punches, moves that can also be loaded - always paying attention to the timing of execution. though - to get maximum damage with minimum effort.

If punches and kicks do not seem enough to make a massacre with all the trimmings, know that it will be possible to find, around the levels, also countless types of weapons, both improper, such as sticks, brooms, pipes and so on, and a real one. arsenal consisting of axes, swords, hammers and so on. If even these nice little objects are not enough for you, you will be happy to discover that Vasyli will also be able to use the firearms that are often dropped by newly killed enemies and that he, with all the experience accumulated in his past occupation, knows how to use in a masterly way to say the least.

In addition to weapons, we will be able to happily slaughter our former comrades by taking them from behind or when they are distracted, thus performing a related Instant Kill of truculent and fun dedicated animation. If even this is not enough to quench your thirst for gore and splatter, know that in Redeemer: Enhanced Edition you can also interact with a large part of the environment, always with a view to killing an opponent quickly and painlessly (the last condition always applies only to us).

All these killing possibilities are one of the points in favor of the title, giving a bit of variety to a gameplay that, inevitably, risks being monotonous after a while. And just the general monotony is the worst flaw of Redeemer: Enhanced Edition. The short and not exactly inspired levels, combined with disappointing and practically all the same Boss fights, make the general interest in the game drop very soon, in practice after having seen all or most of the ways in which you can take out an opponent. The story mode, however, does not even shine for longevity, so it will not be difficult for you to complete the game.

Redeemer: Enhanced Edition - Review

Technically Redeemer: Enhanced Edition is positioned on medium to good levels, with not particularly detailed graphics but still very effective and very atmospheric, which ran smoothly from start to finish without any hitch whatsoever. Playability is also very good, simple and immediate and with a good learning curve.

Summing up, we can say that this Redeemer: Enhanced Edition is a decent title, but one that fails to go beyond a full pass. The pleasure of throwing yourself into the fray and eliminating your opponents in an imaginative and sadistic way does not last long, leaving space after just a few hours for a flat monotony. Ideal for a few quick games without too many thoughts but, and it's really a shame, absolutely nothing more.
