Sakura Wars: Our first impressions

    Sakura Wars: Our first impressions

These days we have tried Sakura Wars preview and we are ready to provide you our first impressions on the new work of Sega. We have to bite our tongue before we speak, also because the game will be released on April 28th and we cannot reveal anything in advance. The desire is great, we do not hide it from you, but we promise not to spoil anything.

Maybe some of you already know the history of the Sakura Wars franchise. Maybe you have played with the old Sega Saturn and Dreamcast consoles, or you have read some books, or maybe you have seen the anime on TV. Its beauty is just that, knowing how to inspire. Not only video games, but also books, musicals, concerts, anime have revived the adventures of the Flower Division.

The surprising thing is that a distance of over 20 years since its first release, which took place on Sega Saturn, Sakura Wars still manages to amaze as if it were the first time. Obviously the game times have changed so the gameplay of this reboot of the saga has also had to align with the period. Despite maintaining that magic typical of the unforgettable JRPG, the goal of the game is due compromise with current action trends.

Oddly, SEGA decides to do not localize the game in Spanish, so you'll have to play it with Japanese audio and English subtitles. Not very smart choice adopted by the historic Japanese developer who, by doing so, drives away a good slice of potential gamers. He's done it lately too Person 5 Royal, converting his adventure into Spanish years after its release. This decision, we do not hide from you, has left us perplexed.

    Sakura Wars: Our first impressions

Let's continue with our first impressions of Sakura Wars talking about the narrative component, remained firm to its origins. This, in our opinion, represents the true strength of the video game. Set in a steampunk version of an imperial 40s Tokyo, the game tells the adventures of the Flower Division, the special corps that stands in defense of the Japanese capital. Born on the ashes of Imperial Combat Revue, destroyed by a cataclysm a short time before, aims to reconstitute it stronger than ever.

At the head of this special body is chosen, with the role of "blessed among women", Seijuro Kamiyama, the main protagonist of the story. He will have to hold off a wild group of girls led by the innocent but peperina Sakura Amamiya. The two had known each other before, since they were kids, and then they took different paths. The Flower Division in addition to Sakura, has 4 other components to its assets, each with a character to be discovered (and not just the character).

The videogame, as if it were an anime, it is divided into episodes, whose performance is marked by a very precise logic. A good part is dedicated to the relational aspect, where they predominate dialogues and interactions between characters. Here, in addition to the narration of the story, the LIPS, a decision-making system that determines the understanding between the characters. This is crucial both on and off the battlefield. At the end of this part, the combat sequences characterized by moments of frenetic action with spectacular combos and special moves.

Without going into too much detail (even if the desire is really great), the action component of the gameplay develops aboard a mecha made almost in a supedeformed style. Before the battle begins, we can prepare our robot's combat set-up, installing weapons and upgrades.

    Sakura Wars: Our first impressions

To conclude with our first impressions, on the sidelines of our initial experience with Sakura Wars, we want to say a few words about his artistic component. It is not often that you find a similar quality. Let's talk about the design of the characters, the style of the settings, the soundtracks and how these they manage to convey real emotions. Whenever you start an episode, it's hard to stop without knowing how it ends. Perhaps this is the beauty of Sakura Wars.

The rest you will find in our review.
