The world of graphic adventures goes back a long time, even before the current triple A and the projects that today we consider mammoth: few of you will know that the genre in question has its roots in another videogame era but still today it is considered the beating heart of all current video games. When we talk about video games we also talk about history and how they have been able to evolve over time, obviously in a positive way.

Continuing to talk about history, we cannot forget how graphic adventures have made way for multimedia works such as "graphic novels": many of the current works have often taken their cue from old forgotten glories which, over time, have re-acquired a certain emotional and instructive value.

One of the titles that has certainly made headlines during the past years is Secret Files: Tunguska: The latter, developed by the Germans of Animation Arts, is still a milestone for fans of graphic adventures and has been an inspiration for many developers around the world. After the well-known success of the first chapter, the development team began to work on the sequel of the title, creating something, at that time, extremely innovative: the sequel to the title arrives with determination, not forgetting the basics of its predecessor, enriching them with lots of news.

Several years after its launch, Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis is ready to land on Nintendo Switch with a remastered version designed mainly for the Nintendo home console. Will it be able to win over long-time fans? Let's find out together in our review!

Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis - Switch Review

Where everything started…

After the events of the first chapter, Nina Kalenkov definitively ends her with her ex-boyfriend and, for the occasion, officially decides to take a nice and well-deserved vacation. Obviously, things take a bad turn and our protagonist will be forced again to solve some rather strange puzzles: some deaths and an accidental exchange of suitcases, will lead Nina Kalenkov to solve new puzzles intertwined with a sect called "Puritas Cordis". The latter have a habit of propagating on TV the imminent end of the world which, in part, is turning out to be true: some climatic upheavals, wars and an endless famine are upsetting the world around us.

The story of this title is divided into two apparently distinct narrative parts: in addition to the story of our protagonist, we will also follow the story of Max who is currently working on an archaeological research in Indonesia together with his adventure partner Sam. As you can imagine, the fate of Nina and Max will lead them to meet again leaving them, finally, to one of the most exciting endings ever seen so far. You are surely wondering how it will all turn out right? Well, you will have to find out by purchasing Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis.

New puzzles await us:

As you can well imagine, the puzzles within this multimedia work are the essence of the entire game plot: we will often find ourselves solving a huge amount of puzzles to continue with the main story of the game, often making use of objects and the game air that surrounds us. Although some puzzles will lead you to find the correct solution, you will find many others that will totally complicate your way out. Don't worry though: the difficulty in Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis is not very high and the solution to the puzzles will, over time, be easier than expected. Some hints will be given to us when we point the arrow at an object to be examined or something we have to collect, making everything much less frustrating than usual.

One of the most popular features is certainly the one we will find in our inventory: through the special lens, we will have the possibility to understand with which objects or characters we can interact within the game area, making our life less complicated than expected.

The large number of objects and the tiring search for solutions could lead you to try all objects with "everything": have patience and dedication, in Secret Files 2 there is an intelligent help system that will help you in part without revealing the entire solution to the riddle. We warn you, however, do not abuse it too much and try to make an effort to find the solution to the game puzzles yourself. In addition to all the objects and the various solutions we will have to deal with riddles, combinations and much more: the latter are never trivial and often enrich the entire gaming experience, resulting in an exceptional enjoyment.

Despite the weather ...

That's right, despite the time gone by, technically speaking Secret Files still proves to be one of the best point and click in circulation and this Remastered is the confirmation: with a series of scenarios made in 3D, the title still leads us to a rather pleasant result. We cannot say the same about the textures on the character models which are sometimes outdated and clumsy; leaving out the latter, the result is not bad at all. On the small Nintendo house, the title gives its best and fits perfectly to the portability of Nintendo Switch. Graphically speaking, Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis takes a step forward compared to the Nintendo DS version but does not take full advantage of the qualities of the new Nintendo console: let's face it, the title improves a lot in terms of the graphic aspect but does not exploit the full potential of Nintendo Switch thus letting a good opportunity slip away.

Speaking on the audio sector, we confirm that, excluding some game scenes, the in-game music is quite limited and we will only perceive the sounds and noises of the surrounding air. Fortunately, the latter are made in an optimal way and it will be a pleasure to listen and listen to what surrounds us.

The point and click that never dies:

As many of you know, the title was dubbed only in English and subtitles were also included: you will notice how the translators have been exceptional in translating this title, not only inserting the contents of the text, but they have also been able to bring back the spirit that characterizes this wonderful point and click branded Animation Arts. We must recognize the work of the developers who have done their utmost to ensure that all Nintendo users can also experience this small milestone on the Nintendo Switch. We must recognize that Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis will not be remembered as the best title of its kind, but entertains the player in the best way and coherently continues the chapter previously developed by the guys of Animation Arts.

On the Nintendo home console, we also have the possibility to take advantage of the touch screen and to interact more easily with the game scenario: thanks to the possibility of using the touch, it will be very easy to interact with the puzzles that the title offers us and greatly simplifies the search for the various hidden objects.

Seeing Max and Nina back at work is always a pleasure and confirms the potential that we will find within this fantastic sequel. Despite its years, Secret Files 2 does its job in an excellent way and keeps us in the company of its puzzles and mysteries for the duration of the game. We recommend Secret Files 2: Puritas Cordis to all those who love the genre in question and for all those who want to enjoy a fluid and interesting storyline on the Nintendo Switch as well.
