Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection - Review

Review for Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection. Game for PlayStation Network, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, the video game was released on 31/05/2018

Hadoken! Who has never heard the formula that accompanies the blow of the wave scream, in the perfect tradition in which every blow launched against the enemy foresees the useless enunciation of the name of the technique? There are characters, details, stories, who manage to break through the barrier that relegates them to the dimension of their belonging to enter the vast sea of popular culture; that set of almost archetypal images that are instinctively recognized. Just think of super Mario, well known outside the close circle of video game fans or the dance scene between Vincent and Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction, even a spectator who is fasting cinema will just hear the first chords of the song and see Vince go wild to awaken the memory. Hadoken, perhaps launched by the famous Ryu, is in the Olympus of the legacies of the past century, an impossible symbol not to recognize and it is imperative to pass on its origins.

This Capcom knows, and is ready to give us Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection.

The launch of the first Street Fighter dates back to 1987, but the worldwide success that crowned the Capcom brawler as the undisputed king of the first half of the 90s occurred in 1991, year of release of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. The characterization of the characters, the draft plot, the gameplay, the exquisite aesthetic impact and the soundtrack, still make the second chapter of the "street fighters" a respectable fighting game, albeit with all the ingenuity due to the time of belonging.

The rest is history: to date the Street Fighter saga has more than 30 titles under its belt, including canonical chapters, cross overs and spin offs of the saga.

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection - Review

It's been 30 years since the saga's launch and what better way to celebrate its anniversary than to release a binder that included a selection of the most prominent titles of the era? Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection is not just a nostalgia operation, however, because the proposed chapters are unaffected by age and flaunt an unparalleled charisma, demonstrating the validity of various pearls that have been able to give strong emotions even at a competitive level such as Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike of 1999.

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection offers us 12 chapters of the saga:

  • Street Fighter
  • Street Fighter II: The World Warrior

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection - Review

Although Arcade mode and the ability to play with a friend locally is available for all titles, the 30th Anniversary mainly focuses on 4 titles: Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting, Street FIghter II: Turbo, Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter III: Third Strike. The online mode and training are in fact only available on these chapters of the saga, a sensible choice all in all, designed to make the multiplayer experience less dispersive and not disperse the user on too many titles. During the Online experience we will be paired with players of more or less equal skill in a maximum of 3 matches and we will earn or lose points based on our performance, all in a cheap and in-depth ranking system.

It sure is interesting the possibility of playing the Arcade mode while searching for a challenger and being able to create or join lobbies, as well as having friendly, unclassified matches. Unfortunately we will not be able to choose the opponent to face based on his connection (feature available in most modern fighting games) and we will find out if our enemy will give us a good match with Lag shots just by fighting against us, all this does nothing but penalize a netcode all in all acceptable.

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection - Review

If you are hungry for detailed information on the history of Street Fighter is here a "museum" that offers us the opportunity to discover the history of the saga, seasoning the experience of an infinity of original Artworks.

Among the usual options, such as being able to map the controller at will, stands the option of being able to apply a graphic filter that brings the visual paste back to the standards of vintage cabinets, as well as the choice between native resolution and full screen. The game runs smoothly across the screen, and we didn't experience any drop in FPS during the test hours.
