Tannenberg - Played the PlayStation 4 version

Tannenberg - Played the PlayStation 4 version

In these days we have been able to preview the new stand alone expansion of Verdun, the title FPS di M2H e BlackMill Games which, despite not having been very successful, has managed to build a small niche of enthusiasts. This new one was conceived just for them Tannenberg, title already available on PC and which is now also coming to consoles.

Tannenberg is always a multiplayer FPS set during the First World War and, unlike AAA shooters like Call of Duty or Battlefield, it focuses much more on strategy and realism.

If Verdun players will find themselves "at home", browsing the menus and the various modes of the title, newcomers may initially be a bit confused and confused by the many information, often unclear and orderly, that the menus throw to the player. After we have recovered from the initial stun however, we will be faced with the menu page with the three different selectable modes: Maneuver is a 20 VS 20 clash inside the trenches, reproduced in such a way as to give the player a good dive, we will find ourselves having to conquer as many areas of the map as possible by moving from one trench to another, passing through the uncovered areas where we will risk leaving our skin behind.

In fact, it will be very easy to die as it will be enough to be hit once or twice. The clashes are much slower and tactical than the usual FPS, a feature that you may like, of course, the only risk is that, given the length of the matches (about 30 minutes), you can get bored soon, especially if alone; the whole would be, however, much more interesting if played with some friends. Unfortunately, this mode is the only playable given the absence of players in Friction Warfare and Rifle Death-match, which would then be the classic Death-match and Tutti VS Tutti.

The reconstructions of the different playing areas are excellent, and allow the player to immerse themselves in the atmosphere and to think of different strategies to get around the enemies. This will be the technique to be adopted most, in fact direct confrontation is not recommended given the ease with which you go down. Luckily, the respawn was pretty quick, not making this One Shoot, One Kill mechanic annoying. The graphics are not on the same level as the level design, we therefore find textures that do not always load, different objects of the scenario that appear suddenly, trees for example, and you can also notice slight drops in Frame Rate during the game.

The reconstruction of the weapons appears quite accurate, with the presence of many guns of the time, the problem arises when you start shooting: whether you use a simple pistol, a revolver or a semi-automatic rifle, the sound produced by the gun will always be the same, this makes you lose a little of the immersion that had developed thanks to the care in creating the environments. Always continuing with the audio sector, we also have a good involvement from this point of view, were it not for a few moments when the screams of wounded soldiers come from corpses on the ground or even from points in the ground where there is nothing.

Our tried by Tannenberg therefore ends with a fairly mediocre judgment, a title not too recommended for those approaching for the first time and maybe even alone. For those who are already a Verdun player, don't hesitate to add this expansion to their collection, as he will find himself "at home", and could also be pleasantly surprised by some news.

Tannenberg is therefore a title that presents many interesting ideas and different features that make it fun and immersive, but unfortunately its technical limitations and some inaccuracies risk ruining the beautiful initial atmosphere, making it boring in the long run. Furthermore, the management of the servers in the various modes makes it impossible to vary the type of game, facilitating even more the boredom effect, which could still be defeated with a good group of friends.

Recall that Tannenberg is already available for PC and that, from 24 July, it will also be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
