Welcome to the first part of our guide to The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. We obviously start from "chapter" 1; we will stop shortly before the first dungeon, to which we will dedicate a later guide. The very first goal of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is to find a shield and sword, so let's start right here.
Find the shield
After the intro, as soon as you wake up, all you have to do is talk to Marin, who will provide you with information on where to retrieve your sword. Soon after, talk to his father Tarin to get the shield.
Finding the sword
Start crossing the Maba Village and reach the library on the far left, right near the edge of the map: it will provide you with interesting clues about the functions of the various game controls. Once out of the library, go down until you reach the Toronbo beaches: you will understand that you are in the right place when you see some sea urchins and Octoroks.
Use the shield to defend yourself from both enemies and watch out for the Leever, a sort of rotating machinery whose hooks will pop out of the sand to attack you; avoid them for now and make your way to the end of the beach. Just before you can get it, the Owl will appear, ready to give you the next destination: the Mysterious Forest. Take back your sword and get ready for the adventure to begin.
