Review for Ultra Street Fighter 2. Game for Nintendo Switch, the video game was released on 26/05/2017

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers is the celebration of (almost) thirty years of history of fighting games. Incidentally, this umpteenth reissue of the branded title Capcom manages to touch, at least for a few moments, emotional strings that evoke scents and scents relegated to the mythical 90s, a time when Mario and Nintendo challenged Sonic and Sega, and Mortal Kombat ruined the dreams of the faint of heart.

Too bad, however, that the effect of this dirge wears off soon. The trip made up of memories and a lot of nostalgia ends up irremediably clashing with a work that, however titanic, now demonstrates the weight of its years. And the implementation of some "new" modes, the introduction of grapple breaks together with two "new" wrestlers, Evil Ryu and Violent Ken, or the graphic overhaul in HD is of little use: Ultra Street Fighter II is a production intended only for fans of the series.

Net of a not properly accessible tag (officially set at 39,99 resounding eurozzi), this re-edition of the picchiapicchia never takes off. Whether you play in solitude or in company, the fun bestowed by Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers isn't enough to justify another, expensive ride on a caravan, that of the second episode of the series, which probably has nothing more to say in the current gaming landscape. The Buddy Battle, directly taken from the Dramatic Battle of the Alpha series, allows two people to duel together against a third character, governed by the CPU.

The most important news, although playfully quite weak, comes from the introduction of Way of the Hado, a first-person mode that forces the gamer in the role of Ryu, placing him in front of a whole series of opponents to blast with special moves, which can be carried out through the joint use of the Joy-Con and their motion sensors. Too little for homo ludens, hungry for novelties that certainly cannot be found in the now classic Arcade, Versus and Training modes.

As a side note, it is pleasant to implement countless illustrations, directly from the book The Art of Street Fighter. On the other hand, the ability to customize the colors of the various characters in the game.

The years go by, and they all feel, at least in this case. Precisely for this reason, Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers fails to go beyond a skimpy enough. Although there are some small news, both the price of the entire work and the actual playful backwardness relegate this latest re-edition of the Capcom fighting game recommended only to the most hardcore fans of the game.
