12 secrets in Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Assassin's Creed Odyssey is finally on our consoles and is getting very positive reviews, too from our part. The Greek world (re) created by Ubisoft is huge and chock full of mysteries to uncover, so buckle up as we go.

Here are 12 secrets you may not have discovered yet in Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

    Wakanda for… some time

Do you remember the scene near the waterfall at the beginning of Black Panther, the one where T'Challa and M'Baku fight for the throne? Odyssey makes a “delicate” quote. If you head towards the Gortina Falls in Messara you will see two men fighting on a hill near a waterfall, with a small congregation of fans cheering for one or the other.

You can enjoy the fight, of course, but why not intervene, place a good Spartan kick and crown a winner?

    3rd Echelon… or 4th?

5 years after Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Ubisoft still plays with our appetite for another title with Sam Fisher as the protagonist. In modern London, Layla's operations room contains memento of various franchises of the French software house and one of these is Sam's night vision glasses, which has now become the emblem of the series.

    Rabbids

Also in the same room you will find the statuette of a Rabbid on a shelf, an object to which Layla respond with an emblematic and hermetic "Bwaah?".

    Evie and Jacob

Looking at Big Ben out the window, Layla will wonder aloud if the Frye twins they would be able to recognize their city. This is clearly a reference to the protagonists of Assassin's Creed Syndicate, responsible for the removal of the Templars from London. Yes, they also joined Charles Dickens' Ghost Club to deny the existence of paranormal phenomena but after all Syndicate was already pretty weird on its own.

    Lieutenant Evie

Staying on the Syndicate theme, Evie Frye is an NPC in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, unlockable as a crew member through theUbisoft Club going on rewards section. For PC users, unlocking is a bit more complex, as it requires you to have accumulated at least 7500 XP in each game in the series.

    A sword, a rock

Head to the highest mountain in Laconia and there you will find a rock with a small blade stuck in it. It might be a vague mention of the Sword in the Stone, though Excalibur (according to legend) it was in a lake and in a completely different historical period. Some assume it is a wink at the Dark Souls series, but the sword does not serve as a hearth. The mystery continues.

    All in family

Assassin's Creed Rogue is perhaps not the most remembered title, nevertheless it tells an interesting and very human story, a tale of betrayed ideals and silenced consciences. In a dialogue between Layla and Alannah Ryan, the latter remembers her grandfather's stories about hers nonno, a Irish described as "adventurer and man of the sea". What is he talking about Shay Patrick Cormac, the protagonist of Rogue?

    Open World (s)

Influences in the gaming world are two-way streets of circulation, and as the concept of open world has been able to influence Breath of the Wild, so Assassin's Creed Odyssey wanted to mention one of the adorable little creatures of the BotW game world. Heading to Malis and inspecting the hills on the East side we can find a small stone with two branches as arms and a leaf as a face, clear reference to Zelda's Koroks.

    That's Athens, this ...

It is the battle of the 300 that kicks off Odyssey, a clash in which we play the role of Leonidas, progenitor of the actual protagonists of the title, Cassandra and Alexios. At the end of the section we will receive the trophy / achievement "This is Sparta!" which, guess what, is a clear reference to the most iconic scene of Zack Snyder's most iconic film, 300.

    Boy!

Impossible to be in Greece and not think of the God of War par excellence, the now iconic Kratos. In Phokis, on Mount Parnassus, we can find a sort of cave with Spartan helmets and blood splatters. Refuge or playroom? I fear the answer.

    The sailor dresses… strange

One of the most interesting features in crew management is the ability to assign costumes to you. One of these costumes is a more basic version of the now traditional Assassin outfit. At what looks? Exactly in Bayek and his "uniform" from Medjay. Meaningless, but cool.

    About thirty days later

At the source of Asterion, climb the statue and relax for a couple of minutes. The musical theme will begin to change and remind you, so intentional or not, the central theme of “28 Days Later”. Zombie expansion on the horizon? Let me hope in silence.
