Assassin's Creed Valhalla - How to Play Orlog

Assassin's Creed Valhalla - How to Play Orlog

Like every chapter in the saga, too Assassin's Creed Valhalla offers a series of side activities to be carried out during their wanderings in the game world. After having proposed a short guide on fishing, it is therefore time to concentrate on the game of Orlog. It is not the first time that a chapter of Assassin's Creed includes, among the secondary activities, board games among the most disparate such as Filetto and Fanorona (present in Assassin's Creed III).

However, the developers of Assassin's Creed Valhalla have decided to include a game they invented, which has been given the name of Orlog.

Orlog involves the use of the dice by the two challengers and the passage through these three phases:

    • launch phase
    • stage of divine favor
    • resolution phase

During the first phase Eivor and his opponent take turns throwing the dice, after flipping a coin to decide who gets the first turn. Each of the two players has six dice at their disposal and, after throwing them, they must select which ones to keep and which ones to reroll.

The faces of the dice are composed as follows:

    • Ax, close range damage
    • Arrow, distance damage
    • Shield, parry damage from a distance
    • Helm, protects against close damage
    • Hand, steal a divine favor token from your opponent

Each of these symbols can also be found in the gold-rimmed version, which gives the player a token. A good strategy in Orlog is precisely the accumulation of tokens, which can be used in the second phase to have both offensive and defensive effects. Considering that the aim of the game is to decimate the fifteen stones that make up the opponent's life, you can choose your own approach from the beginning of the game.

Taking a completely offensive approach allows you to finish the game in a few turns, but you risk seeing your stones run out very quickly. A more cautious, defense-based strategy will allow you to maintain a higher number of life points, but will require you to run the game longer.

Regardless of the type of approach chosen - there is no one that is fairer or more effective than the others - it is very important to choose a strategy and follow it from the beginning of the game. Acting in this way makes it possible to take advantage of the stage of divine favor smoothly. In the second phase of the Orlog it is important to calculate the number of tokens in one's possession, as well as those that we will subtract and give to the opponent (there is a preview of the action).

This is a very important trick, since choosing a divine effect that is too powerful you risk not having the amount of tokens necessary to proceed in the action. At the same time, it can be helpful to check the number of tokens your opponent has in order to better understand what kind of favor to request. The last phase of the game of the Orlog opens right after the choice of the divine favor and it is in this that the players see their respective damages attributed.

The game of Orlog is certainly one of the most interesting side activities of Assassin's Creed Valhalla e with these small tricks it is certainly easier to enter the mechanism of the game. This does not exclude, of course, that the first games may end negatively, but by trying again several times it will be possible to obtain some victories and start obtaining stronger and more useful divine favors. Recall that a few weeks ago it was announced that the Assassin's Creed Valhalla minigame could even arrive in physical format, but at the moment no further information has been released.
