Lionsgate has announced that it has cast Jack Black for the upcoming Borderlands live-action film. The American actor will give his voice to Claptrap, the yellow robot long seen as the game's mascot.

Director Eli Roth said he was "thrilled to be working with Jack again, albeit in the control room in this case." "Claptrap is the funniest character in the game, so Jack is perfect for bringing him to the big screen," he added.

Jack Black joins an already rich cast of familiar faces, including Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Kevin Hart as Roland and Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Tannis. Last year Eli Roth hoped that fans would be added to the film, so that they would die as extras in an ironic way.

The current draft of the Borderlands film script was written by Craig Mazin, formerly Chernobyl screenwriter for HBO. Additionally, Mazin is currently working on the script for HBO's The Last of Us.
