Call of Duty World War II: The Resistance - Review

Activision, as well as other publishers, has always accustomed us to DLC and packs containing additional maps and bonuses for its flagship games, including those of the Call of Duty series. This year, as usual, it was published the first of four of DLCs which brings some new features including three new maps, a new operation for the war mode and the new chapter of the beloved Zombie mode.

    New maps to play

The new DLC The resistance brings with it some new maps that will surely appeal to all lovers of the multiplayer sector of Call of Duty: World War II. The first of the three new maps is Anthropoid, set in Prague, capital of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia since March 15, 1939. The map is inspired by Operation Anthropoid, an attempted murder of a high-ranking German officer during World War II. In this map you may find yourself slightly disoriented in the first few minutes, given the high presence of spawn points and the various areas where crossfire is very frequent.

The second map is Valkyrie instead, set in East Prussia, which is inspired by the Wolf's Den, the headquarters of the Fuhrer on the eastern front during Operation Barbarossa. The map closely follows the classic style of Call of Duty, thanks to interesting spots for long-range shots, but also for the interesting firefights that tend to come alive during matches, making the action always frenetic and never predictable.

The third and final map introduced with the new DLC is Occupation, a map that in some ways resembles the map Resistance of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, obviously always set in Paris. The characterization of the map is very interesting in fact it is very reminiscent of the old Resistance, thanks to various streets and buildings present, all however made attractive to the historical period in which it tends to be located. This is definitely a gem that avid Call of Duty fans will not fail to appreciate.

    Operation Intercept

Among the most interesting innovations of Call of Duty: World War II we certainly find the introduction of the War mode, which has convinced many veterans of the series. The War mode has similar characteristics to what we can already find in games like Overwatch, in which a team during the first round attacks and in the following round instead has to defend itself from the enemy team. As the main mission we are required to escort one or more tanks to their destination, with the addition of various objectives to be completed within the time limit, in case of failure of even just one objective, the winning point will be assigned to the enemy team.

With The Resistance DLC this new mode si adds a new operation called Intercept. The peculiarity of this new operation is that in addition to the completion of the various proposed objectives, it will also be necessary save the lives of some members of the resistance French captured and then blocking a train full of allied fighters. The action seemed extremely frenetic to us, but at the same time it required an above average concentration, given the fact that both in attack and in defense we were required to be painstaking teamwork to avoid being literally crushed by the enemy.

This mode convinced us immediately, as also mentioned in the review, and for this reason we continue to support it thanks also to this new operation, to which others will be added with the next DLCs scheduled during the year by Activision. For lovers of competitive multiplayer this can also be an opportunity to test your skills as a team leader, support or avant-garde, all in perfect symbiosis with your teammates, who will help you achieve victory.

    The Isle of Darkness

One of the most loved modes by Call of Duty fans is definitely Zombie, characterized by waves of undead and many objectives to be completed to be able to complete the story set up by the developers. In Call of Duty: World War II, Zombie is back more beautiful than ever, and it looked great already with the Last Reich and Gröesten Haus, interesting chapters that we have already told you about and that you will surely know well for the exceptional cinematic representation.

The island of darkness is the new chapter of this dark adventure against the undead and is characterized by an environment teeming with zombies, which are similar to those we already know, except for some that presented new movesets and abilities and that more than once will annoy our game sessions. We were also impressed in this case by the settings of the scenarios and the cinematic realization, which helps to create panic in the player in the most action-packed moments.

However, the modality remains unchanged compared to the past, in fact you will be asked to accumulate shock points, to be used to purchase better weapons, potions or special items to be used in the course of the story. It will obviously be necessary to unlock the various doors on the map to unlock additional places from which you can get better equipment but also perform fundamental actions to complete your weapons or the various objectives started.

Call of Duty World War II: The Resistance - Review

Call of Duty World War II: The Resistance is a DLC worthy of this chapter, with three new maps for lovers of classic multiplayer, a new War mode and a new chapter for the beloved Zombie mode. Everything is presented in a package perhaps a little too expensive, but which is still in line with what were the prices of the other DLCs. Activision appears to be planning another four DLC packs containing maps, modes and additions for the Zombie mode. The novelty that seemed more valid to us is certainly the new chapter of the Zombie mode, thanks to which we can return to that gloomy and scary world that still remains of an indescribable charm.
