Call of Duty World War II: The War Machine - Review

The arrival of map packs in Call of Duty is always an important moment for fans of the series. Even with the new Call of Duty: World War II there is no shortage, in fact after The Resistance we can talk about Call of Duty World War II: The War machine, a new DLC that in addition to the three promised maps also introduces a brand new Zombies chapter, which will delight lovers of the parallel mode to the multiplayer of the series Call of Duty.

    Three new exclusive maps

The War Machine DLC, as always, introduces some new maps to play online, specifically we talk about: Egypt, Dunkink e V2. All the maps are unpublished and very particular, in fact in each of them an always different approach will be required given the exclusive level design. Dunkirk, the first map that we will analyze, from the graphic point of view does not bring anything new, in fact it is very similar to the other maps present, were it not for its interesting characterization that mix close combat with ranged combat. In fact, there will be bloody firefights in the central portion of the map, almost completely uncovered, and there will be snipers who will tend to attack from the rear.

Egypt, on the other hand, is a map set in Egypt, where sand and yellowish buildings are the masters of the scene. The level design is good and the objects used are all of excellent quality both in terms of textures and polygonal models. As for the gameplay, the style of play to be used will certainly be more aggressive, in fact, the narrow alleys and some open areas in common will often put you face to face with the enemy.

In the V2 map instead, we will be called to fight in a relatively small area with a central fulcrum represented by the V2 rocket. In this case it will be easy to juggle both close and medium / long-range fights, thanks to the many spots that will allow you to aim directly in the most crowded areas. As for the graphic characterization of the map, nothing to say, it is in line with the others, both for the quality of the objects and for the style.

    Operation Husky

One of the innovations introduced by Call of Duty: World War II this year is definitely the war mode, where two enemy teams (of six players) compete to attack or defend certain objectives, which is similar to what has already been seen in titles like Overwatch. With The War Machine DLC Husky operation is introduced, set in Ragusa, Italy, where the axis is found to be attacked by the allies who want to steal at all costs important documents regarding strategic targets located in Palermo and Naples.

The operation organized by the allies has three main objectives: the first is to steal the three papers of the board and bring them back to the base; the second one will ask you to use the radio to inform fighters: and the last, the real novelty of Call of duty World War II: The War machine, where you will have to clear the skies of enemy fighters. In this last phase, you will be using the fighter, with which you will have to move in the skies to destroy the enemy team.

Overall, the new operation turns out to be the best of those already present, both on the ground combat front where there remains the possibility of building walls, placing traps and collecting Molotov cocktails to be thrown at incoming enemies, and on the air front introduced with the new DLC . However, the flight is certainly too short and perhaps uninspired but it certainly gives that extra touch that the lovers of war mode have surely been waiting for.

    Zombies also in Berlin

With the new DLC comes the new chapter of Zombies, highly anticipated by players all over the world. In the new chapter "The Throne of the Shadow" we will have to face hordes of zombies in Berlin, the heart of Nazi Germany, where Dr. Straub unleashes his monstrous army to wipe out the Allies. You will therefore have to join Marie, Drostan, Olivia and Jefferson in this new adventure, characterized by a setting always of the highest level, with cinematic scenes, stages and puzzles to solve.

From a gameplay point of view The Shadow Throne doesn't bring much new, however, in fact, it is limited to continuing the series started at the launch of Call of Duty World War II, all with a style that is pleasant to see, especially thanks to Berlin destroyed and infected by the Zombie virus. It is certainly a must for fans, but we believe that given the proposed price, more varied content could also be included in order to make the Zombies experience more compelling.

Call of Duty World War II: The War Machine - Review

Call of Duty World War II: The War Machine is a DLC that all fans of the series should have, both for the three new maps and for the Husky operation, the real flagship of this production, which also introduces the unreleased fighting with airplanes. As for the Throne of the Shadow, the new chapter of the zombie mode, we are faced with the simple sequel to what we have seen so far, where without major gameplay upsets, we will have to carry on the story studied by Sledgehammer Games, opening doors, completing targets and above all by killing zombies, lots of zombies. Like any Call of Duty DLC, we believe that the proposed price is always too high for the contents offered, but we are sure that most of the fans who opt for the purchase of this package will already have a season pass, which allows to enjoy all the contents that will come out at a lower overall price.
