Code Vein: Guide to the first bosses

In Code Vein, Bandai Namco's Action RPG, there are numerous bosses. In this guide we will give you some tips on how to deal with the first 4 bosses of the game, what their lethal moves are, how to deal with them and how to best counter attacks.

Code Vein: Guide to the first bosses

In this Code Vein boss guide we will focus on:

    • Oliver Collins
    • Butterfly of Delirium
    • Executioner Invader
    • Insatiable Despot

    Oliver Collins

Code Vein: Guide to the first bosses

Our Code Vein boss guide starts with Oliver Collins. Defeating him will be pretty easy compared to the other bosses you meet along your path but, even if the boss is part of the Code Vein tutorial, you will still have to take him seriously otherwise you will find yourself dying countless times. In the first phase of the fight Oliver will attack you with a hammer. His moves will be predictable and slow allowing you to dodge shots with ease just by moving. However, be careful, because even if his attacks do not have much range of action they still do enormous damage. So, in the first place, avoid getting hit. Oliver Collins also has an attack that will allow him to strike you suddenly even when you are behind him.

Stay as close to the boss as possible and try to hit him a couple of times as he charges his attacks. When the damage suffered by Oliver Collins reaches 40%, the boss will start transforming into The Lost. During this process, a whirlwind will occur which, if not avoided, will push you back and inflict damage on you. Once the transformation is complete, the boss's attacks will have a greater range and he will start using new moves. Pay attention to the boss's hands: when he raises them and they turn red it means an imminent attack called Blood Blast, which he will use especially when you are very close to him. Stay behind to avoid taking damage also because it will attack you like this for 2-3 consecutive times. In the time frame in which The Lost does not attack you, do it yourself, possibly 3-4 times consecutively and helping you with the Bayonetta, which is capable of inflicting 5 hits in series in a short time.

    Butterfly of Delirium

Code Vein: Guide to the first bosses

Our guide to the bosses featured in Code Vein continues with The Butterfly of Delirium. This boss will use poison for his attacks and when your bar, which indicates the amount of poison, will fill up, you will start taking damage over time. It is therefore advisable to carry at least a couple of anti-poison potions with you before starting the fight. It is also advisable to equip your character with the Blood Veil armor, which offers high defense against poison and physical attacks. At the start of the fight the boss will try to hit you with his snake tail. They will be fairly predictable offensive moves and, in most cases, it will be 2 consecutive attacks so you will need to dodge both. Furthermore, the Delirium Butterfly will be able to wrap its wings around itself creating a kind of cocoon. At this point, after reopening the wings, it will cause an explosion and release poison around it so always keep a safe distance during this phase.

Your attacks, sometimes, can bring the boss to his knees: you will have to take advantage of them to inflict as much damage as possible. Also try not to stay too far from her because if you do she will attack you by raising her tail and charging you. In this case you will have to carefully dodge its charges by moving sideways or forward. Don't try to attack it from behind as if you do it will release a cloud of deadly poison. The Butterfly of Delirium when in the air shoots up to 5 poisonous bullets that spread throughout the area therefore, even in this case, good timing is needed to dodge attacks. When the boss has taken about 25% of the damage he will start using new attack moves and it will start firing a guided projectile towards you which, although slow, will be combined with a charge attack. With its snake tail it will attack you 3 times consecutively releasing poison in a fairly large area. After avoiding this attack you can hit her by inflicting as much damage as possible but remember that if you get too close behind her she will lock herself in her cocoon and, shooting poison, she will also try to hit you with her 3-hit combo.

    Executioner Invader

Code Vein: Guide to the first bosses

Another boss present in Code Vein and which we will deal with in this guide is the Executioner Invader, capable of using water to his advantage. His attacks will slow you down and his scythe has a very large range. This combo can be deadly then before facing it, we advise you to bring objects with you that will nullify its possibility of slowing down your movements. Equipping your weapon with electricity will also give you some advantages.

In the first phase of the boss fight try to stay as close as possible to the Executioner Invader who can attack you twice consecutively with his scythe. The second attack he launches can damage you even if you are behind him. When the Executioner slams his weapon to the ground you can hit him and inflict as much damage as possible. Don't stray too far, otherwise his hand will start to turn red and that will mean an imminent attack which will consist of a devastating water blast. The second phase of the fight will begin when the Executioner Invader pours water on himself. At this point he will slam his weapon to the ground, start spinning it and shoot water bullets at you. Dodge them by moving sideways trying to avoid as much damage as possible.

At this stage, the speed of his attacks will also increase. If you go too far the Executioner will charge you and try to trample you. Keep dodging his blows by always moving sideways or forward, never back. The boss will also be able to execute two consecutive charges towards you and the second will also produce a jet of water that will make his attack more effective. So (we are repetitive but it is once again important to emphasize this) always pay close attention to your movements.

    Insatiable Despot

Code Vein: Guide to the first bosses

Our guide to Code Vein bosses ends with the Insatiable Despot who, given his imposing size, inspires a certain fear. In the early stages of the fight the boss will use two daggers and will be able to deposit small eggs that will contain small monsters capable of attacking you. Try to cling to his legs and, when his hand turns red, it will mean that he is going to use this combo and it will be very important to destroy the eggs deposited before they turn into small pets capable of doing a lot of damage. It will be equally important to stay as close as possible to the boss even when he attacks you with one of his two daggers as the range of this type of attack will be very small. When the Insatiable Despot begins to remove parts of himself it means that he is about to make an ax. It will be the beginning of the second phase of the fight in which clinging to his legs will no longer be needed. The red crystals will turn into projectiles that can follow you. Try to dodge them and don't stand in front of the boss or he'll charge towards you. He can also hit the ground with his ax and cause an explosion that could kill you almost instantly. Always keep an eye on his hands and, if the ax turns red, move immediately behind him and try to inflict as much damage as possible.
