Farming Simulator 20 - Review

    Farming Simulator 20 - Review

Life is not just about tracks and fun, it's time again to go and earn a living in the fields. Old Floyd in my absence has lost some of his greed, buying a new farm and barning a brand new John Deere. Not bad, it won't be an F40 but in the fields he knows his stuff. I finish this splendid Golden Glow and while my Amorelli is resting, I'm going to try it ...

    Farming Simulator 20 - Review

Farming Simulator 20 is the mobile version chapter of Farming Simulator 19. We need to clarify for a moment because players are often confused thinking that the software house is releasing a new version of the game which, in reality, is one and only the "lightened" transposition for mobile devices of what happened the year before on PC and console . The predecessor of Farming Simulator 20 it is not Farming Simulator 19 but, precisely, Farming Simulator 18, released on the Apple Store and google play, as well as on PS Vita e Nintendo 3DS.

    Catch them all (tractors)!

The title produced by Giants Software and distributed by Focus Home Interactive represents a decisive step forward compared to the previous chapter, obviously conditioned by the limited hardware resources available in the previous generation of smartphones and portable consoles. The news from the point of view of the contents are not very many: in terms of crops, the cultivation of cotton and oats have been added, which make up the ten crops available.

Agricultural machinery now has more than one hundred vehicles perfectly reproduced under license, such as Fendt, John Deere (debuting in mobile version), New Holland and many others, while the existing farms are enriched with the possibility of breeding and mounting the horses (feature directly inherited from Farming Simulator 19). The setting named Blue Lake Valley it is completely new and represents a classic North American scenario, entirely explorable on horseback, with its lush hills and a very well-made glimpse of the lake. If you are new to the series, do not worry because the initial tutorial will explain in detail the operations to do and how to do them to be immediately productive.

The only perplexity was dictated by the need to develop a good system input / output that allows you to interact better even with the new generation touchscreen and screen controls, without the gameplay being affected. Up Nintendo Switch each command is in its place, and the ability to consult the map directly with the touchscreen by selecting icons and menus is a very comfortable and much faster implementation than the classic menus and the map that you find in the PC or console counterpart. The downside is the absence of the mode multiplayer, already widely anticipated by a tweet appeared on September 5th on the official game profile.

If you are a single player lover the question may not even affect you in the least, also because no matter how large the farm is, there is always the possibility of hiring NPCs to make them do the work for you. However, the choice of Giants Software seems nonsense, also because giving the possibility to play multiplayer on mobile devices and consoles would have considerably increased longevity, which turns out to be much lower than PC and console: without the possibility of helping other players to to cultivate farms or to be helped, even by aiming to collect all the various agricultural vehicles, boredom is around the corner.

The game still gives you a good enough starting amount of money that you don't have to start fasting, ideal for fun and immediate crops wherever you are. If you want to get a better idea and are considering the purchase of Farming Simulator 19, after learning of the absence of the online mode, you can find the review here.

    Graphics and audio

Graphics are undoubtedly the most awaited and enjoyable novelty of this Farming Simulator 20: forget the squared polygonal models and the little detailed scenarios of the previous chapter, because the step forward is definitely beyond expectations, so much so that we were you before buying the title for your smartphones, we would recommend a careful evaluation of the requirements recommended by developers. The reviewer tried the game on Nintendo Switch and we can tell you that there have been no problems inherent in the request for resources: both the setting and the vehicles are made so well that we often forget that we are dealing with a portable version of the game.

    Farming Simulator 20 - Review

The gem brought to the debut by the developers is given by internal view of the vehicles, for the first time in the portable version of the game. The frame rate drops are minimi, an indication that the port was really well cared for and made in every detail. By connecting the Nintendo Switch to the TV, the graphics are appreciated much less, but it is certainly not the fault of the game if the hardware architecture of the big N is not up to par with the competitors or the PC counterpart. The audio sector is excellent and integrates perfectly with the various animations of agricultural vehicles.

… That tractor pleasantly surprised me. I don't know if the old man did well to come here, the lake will also be beautiful but we are a bit too isolated, no one to help us or to whom we can lend a hand. Never mind, we'll do it alone. It's time to refill your pipe and uncork a bottle of wine, you don't live on work alone.

    Farming Simulator 20 - Review

Farming Simulator 20 it is undoubtedly a step up from its predecessor, labeled more than once as a "virus" by fans of the series, due to the truly hideous graphics. The developers have managed to package a truly valuable and fun title, which in the long run risks being boring and repetitive also and above all due to the questionable choice not to implement the multiplayer mode, present instead in the counterpart on PC and Sony / Microsoft consoles. The advice we give you is to buy the game only if for reasons of force majeure you can not help but take advantage of the mobile platforms, because the possibilities offered by Farming Simulator 19 they are much larger and more attractive. In the current state of the gaming market, launch a game of this type without multiplayer turns out to be an unfortunate choice in 99% of cases.
