Unlock Balthier
To unlock this character from Final Fantasy XII reach Chapter 4, head to the Mining Town of Gollund, inspect the Rash of Thefts in the tavern, then go to Dorter's Taver in Merchant City and read the gossip about A Call for Guards. Then leave the city to start a fight, in which you must win with the help of Balthier, who will join the party soon after.
Unlock Use
To unlock this character from Final Fantasy Tactics A2, go to the Zekalus Desert after facing the fights at Orbonne Monastery in Chapter 3, watch the cutscene sequence and win the next battle. At this point, Luso will join your party.

Unlock the secret characters
Complete certain objectives to unlock the five secret characters (although Reis comes in two forms). Mustadio must be present in the party to get these characters which will be unlocked in Chapter 4.

| Human Reis | Read the gossip in Zeltennia, buy a flower in Zarghidas, then return to Goug, unlocking a fight in Zeltennia and making reis human |
| Worker 8 | After saving Reis from Goland, return to Goug Machine City. Worker 8 will join the party after a short intermission sequence |
