Final Fantasy VII Remake: Analysis of the new trailer

During the State of Play 2019 a new trailer about Final Fantasy VII Remake was released, in which we witness the debut of Aerith. The title is certainly one of the most anticipated in the long term, in fact Square Enix has not yet mentioned anything about the release.

As announced earlier, in this trailer we finally had the opportunity to take a peek at one of the protagonists, the florist Aerith. Furthermore, albeit only from behind, it was glimpsed one of the most loved characters by fans: Sephiroth.

As was already known, Final Fantasy VII Remake it will differ from the original for its action component, contrary to the turn-based one with which the title was born. In the video you can see a certain resemblance to the Final Fantasy XV HUD. HUD that sees the party members and their data on the bottom right, while on the left we have the list of commands.

According to what we have seen, there are commands not present in the original version. For example, above the "Attack" command we can see an entry "Punisher" for Cloud and "BackBlast" for Barret. We do not know yet if they are special attacks added specifically in this version, as the Limit Breaks are still present in the Remake (you can notice in passing the “Braver” command in the Menu. Braver is the default Limit Break of Cloud).

It also shows the "Command Menu" in which there are some items, including the Limit Break or objects and we can also confirm the presence of shortcuts, which will work in a similar way to those that many of you will know in Kingdom Hearts.

The characters shown so far, including Aerith, have remained incredibly faithful to the original design (except for that pair of sunglasses Barret wears). Unfortunately, Tifa has not yet been revealed, although in a short part of the trailer we can read her name in the HUD during the fight with Aps, one of the initial bosses. Considering that we will have to wait a long time before we can get our hands on the title, we will certainly have the opportunity to know more characters in the next trailers.

In the trailer we also have a small taste of the dubbing, absent in the original version. We already know that Steve Burton, known to be the English voice of Cloud in Final Fantasy VII Advent Children and the titles of the Kingdom Hearts series, will return to voice the protagonist in this remake. However, we are waiting to know who will dub the other characters.

Final Fantasy VII Remake: Analysis of the new trailer

The only sore point of this trailer is due to the apparent slow development of the title. After 4 years, we still observe the initial stages of Final Fantasy VII Remake: Midgar, the countdown during Cloud's first mission with the AVALANCHE and the sewers where Cloud, Tifa and Aerith face Aps. However, it is possible to assume that the scene in which we observe Sephiroth from behind comes from the Flashback in which Cloud tells his past in SOLDIER in Kalm Town (or, certainly more risky hypothesis, in a phase of the second disc in which Sephiroth plays a little with Cloud's mind and memories in Tifa's presence before the Weapons awakened and Meteor summoned).

Finally, at the beginning of the trailer, before Aerith is first shot, the words “The Return draws closer” appear on the screen.

Final Fantasy VII Remake: Analysis of the new trailer

These are our conclusions regarding what was shown in the latest Final Fantasy VII Remake trailer. To date we still have no hints of a release, but we are confident in the presence of Square Enix at E3 2019. We can only hope that this wait will be rewarded and that the change of the Battle System is the only real difference from the original title, a even more so if we are dealing with a video game that in its time marked its presence not only in the JRPG sector, but also in the videloudic scene of the period.
