Genshin Impact - Guide to elemental status and combos

Genshin Impact - Guide to elemental status and combos

Genshin Impact is a new free-to-play game published by MiHoYo with a vast world entirely explorable and full of elements in perfect RPG style, and from good role play several altered statuses have been introduced. These correspond to the different elements present in the game world, which respectively refer to the seven main deities of Teyvat. Each of the playable characters that we will meet in the course of our adventure will then have its own elemental affinity, being able to use some unique abilities that exploit the element in question. The elements we are talking about are:

    • Anemo (air)
    • Geo (land)
    • Electro (electricity)
    • Dendro (nature)
    • Hydro (water)
    • Pyro (fire)
    • Cryo (ice)

Each elemental status in Genshin Impact will have some particular effect on us or our enemies. Learning to manage and predict this type of effects can help us considerably during the game, facilitating fights but also exploration in some special cases (always remembering that each element can also have effects on the environment around us). Below you can find a complete list of altered statuses that can plague our enemies, or even our characters directly.

    Status inflicted on enemies

    • Geo: Enemies will deal less elemental damage. In addition, the enemies will drop a shield that the player can use to defend themselves. The shield will also be more effective against the element that characterizes the enemy hit.
    • Electro: an enemy hit in water will cause a chain of lightning towards nearby enemies.
    • Hydro: inflicts the "wet" effect.
    • Pyro: Burns an enemy causing them to lose health over time until their status is depleted.
    • Cryo: slows down the movements of the enemy hit.

    Status inflicted on the player

    • Electro: weakens the efficiency of the “Elemental Burst” talent.
    • Hydro: increases the cooldown of our skills.
    • Pyro: effect identical to that towards the enemy.
    • Cryo: The character uses more stamina to dodge and run.

But this is only the beginning: these elements are able to combine with each other in different ways, unleashing some extremely useful and important elemental combos. These combos, coupled with the ability to create a party consisting of four interchangeable characters at any time, allow for a large number of options in terms of gameplay. Below you will find the complete list of all the elemental combos present in Genshin Impact, specifying first of all that some of these will require a certain order in the application of statuses, while others will not.

    Combo without order

    • Electro and Pyro: Pyro effect over a large area.
    • Electro and Cryo: Cryo effect on a large area.
    • Electro and Hydro: Inflicts electrical damage over time.

    Combo with order

    • Enemy plagued by Pyro, Electro, Hydro, or Cryo, and later Anemo: the first effect will be spread over a larger area.
    • Enemy plagued by Dendro, and later Pyro: Causes more burn damage over time than Pyro alone.
    • Enemy plagued by Hydro, and later Cryo: freezes the enemy in place.
    • Frozen enemy, and later hit by heavy attack: breaks the ice, inflicting massive damage on the enemy.

    Combos of opposite types

    • Pyro followed by Cryo: Negates both effects and deals 1.5x Cryo damage.
    • Cryo followed by Pyro: Negates both effects and causes 2x Pyro damage.
    • Hydro followed by Pyro: Negates both effects and causes 1.5x Pyro damage.
    • Pyro followed by Hydro: Negates both effects and causes 2x Hydro damage.

Genshin Impact - Guide to elemental status and combos

As already mentioned, in Genshin Impact it is possible to create a party consisting of up to four characters, and each is characterized by a particular element. This feature is not only important for improving the effectiveness of combos or fights; the elements that characterize our characters will also give us some passive bonuses based on the number of these types present at the same time (and that we can choose to accommodate our style of play). This will allow us to take advantage of even more than one of these bonuses by wisely organizing the team, as described with all the combinations below:

    • Four elements of different types: + 15% elemental resistance.
    • Two Pyro types: 40% less chance of being afflicted by Cryo, attack increased by 25%.
    • Two Cryo types: 40% less chance of being afflicted by Pyro, healing received increased by 30%.
    • Two types Anemo: Reduces Stamina usage by 15%, increases Movement Speed by 10%, and reduces Skill Cooling by 5%.
    • Two Electro types: 40% less chance of being afflicted by Hydro, electric elemental combos and charged attacks of this type release "electric elemental particles".
    • Two Cryo types: 40% less chance to be afflicted by Electro, increases critical chance by 15% against Cryo or frozen enemies.
    • Two Geo types: increases resistance to attack interruptions, increases attack by 15% when protected by a shield.
