When, some time ago, it was presented Hello Neighbor, strongly attracted our attention. The idea of a game where the aim is to infiltrate a stranger's house (who has obviously done something wrong) and investigate with the ever-present possibility of being discovered was somewhat thrilling. Curiosity has increased as we go, but we have always refused to watch YouTube videos about it or to read too much information. We wanted a genuine experience, one of those days when there was no internet and you had to discover everything related to the game for yourself. What we faced, however, was certainly not what we expected.

Here is some team that not what

Our family is moving. The old house is now empty, with boxes to take away, and a last goodbye is necessary. After arriving in the new house, however, we will immediately notice something strange and bizarre from our neighbor: the house opposite is gloomy, we hear noises that are not exactly reassuring, and the window is right there, in plain sight, asking us to give quick View. The neighbor has tied up someone and relegated him inside a room, making it all too clear that the situation is not the most legal. Your best bet would be to call the police. But will we lean towards the best choice? Of course not! Much better to sneak directly into the house of the crime and investigate at the risk of being caught red-handed.

Random puzzles

The view of Hello Neighbor is in the first person, and the actions that can be performed are rather limited: one button is used for jumping, one for squatting, while a third is for interacting with the objects in front of us, whether they are doors to open, cabinets in to hide, obstacles to throw on the ground or other. As mentioned above, our aim is to enter our neighbor's house and investigate his guilt without being discovered. This means making no noise, hiding when necessary, and studying the rascal's habits. The very interesting thing and to which we must give credit is the strength of Hello Neighbor: our neighbor is in fact able to notice changes in his house. If an object has been moved the neighbor will understand that something has happened and will start looking for us like a madman. He will be able to learn our favorite hiding places, or guess our privileged routes of movement to place traps or cameras there. This strength, however, becomes a weakness when we realize that the difficulty of the title, rather than increasing with the progress of the game, only decreases: each chapter presents a larger, more detailed and more detailed house. plans to explore. This means that at the beginning of the game, with a small house, it is much easier and more frequent for us to be discovered, and this not only leads to an incorrect balance of difficulty but also to an inevitable disappearance of that horror game anxiety. in being discovered.

If this were the only weak point of the production it would still be forgivable, the problem is that the structure of the title itself is poorly calibrated. If the "hide and seek" question is in fact very interesting and original, the same cannot be said for the resolution of the puzzles that are absurd and devoid of logic. For almost all of Hello Neighbor we will find ourselves having to interact with objects which then have to be used in certain places or with other objects in turn, but with decidedly random resolutions. There is no real logic for which an enigma can be solved in mind or with a stroke of genius, but everything will be entrusted to an annoying, frustrating, and time-consuming trial and error. kind of like the game was created to be solved by a united community rather than a single player who will be forced to waste days or even weeks behind a single attempt to use each item with any other item or location in the game.

The graphic style of the title must also be undermined: fun and nice to see, it has the cons of minimizing that horror component that would have been much more marked if a more realistic style had been adopted. It should be added that the audio sector is almost non-existent, while the polygonal models are quite simple and not very detailed.

Hello Neighbor - Review

Hello Neighbor presents a very interesting idea but very badly managed. The title is a bundle of frustrating and devoid of any logic puzzles, which force the player to be persevering in using every object in any way possible rather than encouraging him to use his head. The hide-and-seek component is too punitive at the beginning of the experience, resulting in a poorly calibrated difficulty, and the general feeling is that of having a botched game in front of you and with obvious problems in every aspect.
