One of the titles that will benefit most from Microsoft's next-gen upgrade is Ori and the Will of the Wisps: beautiful metroidvania developed by Moon Studios. The framerate of the title will in fact reach 120 fps, making the already excellent animations of the game even more fluid, to the delight of all owners of a TV with HDMI 2.1 sockets. But that is not all.
In fact, from Moon Studios home, other great news have arrived regarding the optimizations made possible thanks to the new generation of Xbox. The director of the game, Thomas Mahler, has indeed stated that on Xbox Series X, Ori and the Will of the Wisps will be rendered at 6K resolution, then supersampled to 4K.
For the uninitiated, supersampling is a technique that allows you to remove serrated edges of the objects shown on the screen, rendering the image in high resolution and then reducing it (exactly what happens when playing a PS4 Pro on a Full HD TV).
In Mahler's words, for a while there will be nothing comparable in terms of image quality.
However, this statement makes us ask some questions.
Will the framerate be kept at 120 even in this mode or will it be reduced to 60? Will there be a supersampling mode on Xbox Series S as well, perhaps to render in 4K and downscale to 1440p?
Only time will tell. What is certain is that Ori and the Will of the Wisps on next gen will be a marvel both to play and to see.
