PlayStation 5: complete showcase and teardown!

Now just over a month after the release of its new console, Sony has finally decided to show us the PlayStation 5 in every detail. Except for some leaked images and for the recent event held in Japan, during which many YouTubers and specialized sites had the opportunity to get their hands on this console for the first time, there were no other "live" demonstrations of PS5. With a new video uploaded a few minutes ago on the official PlayStation channel, Sony finally wanted to provide us with all the details on the new device in its entirety.

It is in fact a video in which Yasuhiro Ootori, Vice President of the Hardware Design Division, breaks down the PlayStation 5 in all its parts, from the cooling system to the motherboard. During this disassembly some important features of this new console are also shown. Let's start with the vertical / horizontal support first, a system that attaches to the PS5 by means of a screw in case you want to use it vertically (with a special housing for the screw in the base of the console, which can be closed with a cap in case you do not want to use it in this way) , or with a practical hook on one of the two white side shells for horizontal positioning.

This is not before showing the ports: on the front we have two USB ports, one type A (Hi Speed) and one C (SuperSpeed), on the back we have two USB type A (SuperSpeed), the LAN port, HDMI and power supply. A very important feature (and that many were waiting to see) is also the possibility of easily removing the two side shells, which allows them to be customized without any problem. Immediately below the shells we can see the large cooling fan that opens on both sides, the grooves that will act as a "dust catcher" and finally the slot for any additional memory (ssd M2 with PCIe 4.0 connection). From this moment on, the actual disassembly begins, going into the details of the various hardware components.

We thus have access to the 120mm diameter and 45mm thick fan, the BluRay Ultra HD player (this covered by a metal plate and more internally by acoustic insulators to reduce the noise of the rotation of the disk) and finally the internal shield that protects the motherboard and all related components. At this point these are parts that we already know thanks to the various presentations, from the CPU to the SSDs, except for the thermal interface of the CPU and the internal heatsink. In the first case it is a liquid metal to which, according to Ootori, the team worked for two years to perfect it, while for the heatsink we have a Heat Pipe which thanks to its shape and structure has been made comparable in efficiency to a Vapor Chamber.

The video (which you can find above) then ends up with the extraction of the last component, the 350W power supply, and a general view of everything that is contained in the PlayStation 5. Sony therefore wanted to do things big, going from not showing its new console at all (which has aroused complaints from many users), to showing today everything "without veils". Now we just have to wait for this last waiting period to end and then finally be able to try everything by hand, especially what the new DualSense will have to transmit.
