Creation is a work that lays its foundation on destruction. History has always taught us that every real rebirth, every real revolution and reconstruction, places its foundations on a land that has experienced demolition and complete destruction in a profound way. This process of disintegration and reconsolidation has always fascinated the human being who, by his very nature, reinvents and renews himself as a consequence of his genetic predisposition to annihilation.

This semi-philosophical premise serves to introduce a title that has made guerrilla warfare and destruction the fulcrum of its very existence: let's talk about Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered published by THQ Nordic, which, after making the owners rejoice and discuss PC, PlayStation 4 e Xbox One, now also lands on Nintendo Switch.

Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered - Switch Review

Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered has a simple and well-crafted storyline, capable of engaging the player despite that déjà-vu feeling. We find ourselves taking on the role of a wrecker hired to work on Mars, a planet in an advanced phase of colonization thanks to the minerals rediscovered in the soil that make it greedy in the eyes of the powerful. As soon as we arrive on the red planet we are greeted by our brother and, in a few simple jokes, it is immediately clear that the situation on Mars is serious. The EDF, an armed military force, from defender of the law has erected itself as master of everything, boasting property rights and killing anyone who stands in its way. From the murders and abuses to the annexation of the protagonist to the cause of the rebels, the step is short and soon we find ourselves facing hordes of enemies of the EDF to the sound of gunfights and flaming explosions.

Leaving aside the story itself - which while never shining is still followed with interest throughout the adventure - let's see what Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered has to offer.

The title can be defined as a third person shooter, due to the visual settings and the mixed component between action and shooter, but the series was born as an open world-like adventure in which the pivotal point is to complete missions mostly devoted to the demolition of everything around us.

In fact, the Red Faction series of which Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered is in fact the latest successor, has built its foundations on a graphics engine capable of making the player destroy much of the open world-like world of which it's part.

In this respect the game has aged very well, bringing the pleasure of building demolition to the small screen of the Nintendo laptop in a sublime way., with visual performance almost on par with some titles today. It would be foolish to deny the pleasure it takes to take down some buildings on the red planet with a couple of well-placed charges, and then enjoy the implosion of the structure from a safe distance.

With each striking demolition, being careful not to kill any settlers in order not to demoralize the population, the alert level in the EDF HQ rises with the consequent dispatch of troops to normalize the situation. This gives way to the title to unleash its shooter component, with battles to the death here also characterized by violent explosions.

This unfortunately brings out the first big problem of the title which, wanting to do too many things together, ends up with decentralizing the content, inevitably going to lose its effectiveness. The guerrilla component is difficult to manage, graphically inaccurate - with enemies that are confused with the color palette in particular on the small screen - and with a dancer viewfinder that often makes you lose patience.

Furthermore, the lack of a real strategy penalizes the action component, which despite being able to count on a good number of weapons trivializes them, actually affecting the player who will vary the weapon only based on the number of ammunition available. Fortunately, we find ourselves with a fairly large open world-like map divided into areas, which offers varied missions, controllable vehicles and fun situations.

The mapping of Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered commands, having to adapt to Switch, is not totally customizable and at times difficult, and the bleak and monochromatic panorama does not enhance a title that is graphically ten years old but which would have deserved greater attention to the reinterpretation of the basic color palette to become an excellent porting work.

In favor of the work done by THQ, however, we underline how the porting is respectable, with the only real drawback represented by the uploads that are a bit too long, especially following a series of deaths due to an inconsistent AI that is too difficult to deal with (due to the problems of managing controls); the solidity of the frame rate and a highly appreciable graphic detail, especially on the small screen of Nintendo Switch, make the game earn points.

It must also be admitted that Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered on Nintendo Switch is also reborn by virtue of the fact that there are not many opponents to beat in the panorama of similar titles for the Japanese laptop. But it is not just a mere boast compared to those who are worse off: the developers have masterfully transposed a title that has brought with it strengths and doubts from past editions for other consoles.

In any case, blowing everything up and fighting on the red planet always has its charm and makes Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered a title suitable even for short game sessions. Unfortunately, the lack of players did not give us the opportunity to thoroughly test the Red Faction online: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered, which for those few successful attempts still convinced the editorial staff enough.

Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered is the latest Nintendo Switch port of THQ Nordic's Red Faction saga. The portability factor of the young Nintendo console, as always, manages to enhance the merits and diminish the flaws of a title that, although pleasant, brings with it strengths and weaknesses of previous editions. Although there may be problems in terms of color palettes and inaccurate commands, we can say that, thanks to a good texture, demolitions and a stable framerate, it is yet another port of THQ Nordic that has been perfectly successful. It can therefore be asserted that Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered must be given a chance, which will give the player pleasant moments of videogame entertainment.
