Star Ocean: The Last Hope - 4K & Full HD Remaster - Review

Review for Star Ocean: The Last Hope - 4K & Full HD Remaster. Game for PlayStation Network, PC and PlayStation 4, the video game was released on 28/11/2017

Every occasion is good to rediscover the good video game. Although Star Ocean: The Last Hope certainly cannot be counted in that small number of JRPGs which, in fact, contributed to sculpting the story of a much loved - as well as sometimes mistreated - subgenre, tri-Ace's work has above all represented the hope of Microsoft to break through with Xbox 360 in Japan first, and a very enjoyable production for PlayStation 3 then.

Before you dive headlong into the (short) analysis of this third re-release, know how this article will focus, in a short and concise way, on describing what really changed from previous iterations. Needless to re-review Star Ocean: The Last Hope for a third time - if you need more details on the game, therefore, you can read our review of the International edition.

The comeback, however, is one of those that impress. Star Ocean: The Last Hope - 4K & Full HD Remaster does not upset an already good production, but it refreshes (in a big way) the purely graphic aspect of the game. In the version tested by EpicTrick, fully compatible with PlayStation 4 PRO, the resolution is fully adjustable, and can be pushed up to 2160p with adaptable filters and graphics even if we were on PC.

Needless to say, such customization possibilities involve having to deal with a digital creature that, at least on a technical level and only if pushed to the maximum, gives its side to some slowdown and indecision too much. Overall usability has also been improved, with significantly faster loading than previous editions of the title.

For the rest, and the reference goes to the contents conveyed by Star Ocean: The Last Hope - 4K & Full HD Remaster, nothing has really changed. Therefore, the uncertainties about a banalotta plot remain, characterized by a really lame start, however the excellent and complex battle system also remains unchanged, which can be described as a perfect cross between action and strategy, superfine dodges and deadly slashes led to the air.

There are many quests available - although unfortunately quite derivative - which bring the minimum overall duration to at least thirty hours of play. Even in terms of sound, no significant changes were detected; however, there is the presence of dubbing both in English and in Japanese, together with the implementation of subtitles in Spanish.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope remains as good a game today as it was yesterday. The excellent graphic enhancement work done by the developers of this 4K & Full HD Remaster makes the title attractive even to those who, a few years ago, had lost the opportunity to try this JRPG, able to offer one of the most deep and complete that have ever trod the binary lands of any videogame platform.
