The Elder Scrolls Online: Wrathstone - Review

Lovers of The Elder Scrolls Online world are now all eagerly awaiting the new Elsweyr expansion, similar in size to Summerset, much appreciated by fans.

The release of this new mega expansion, however, will be accompanied in the months preceding the release by some updates on the game and the beginning of the dragon season, which begins with the Wrathstone DLC and continues with Elswyer in which we will explore lands already seen in The Elder Scrolls: Arena and which will also lead us to discover the long-awaited dragons.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Wrathstone - Review

The beginning of the Dragon Season was therefore ushered in with the release of the Wrathstone DLC, available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The DLC in question essentially introduces two new dungeons, which will serve to anticipate the facts that will then be resumed with the Elsweyr expansion, out on June 4th. In every Wrathstone dungeon we will find a half of the ancient Wrathstone table, the key Abnur Tharn will use to open the Halls of Colossus, unintentionally releasing the dragons on Elsweyr.

To access the dungeons, you need to have a party of four members, who must all have reached at least level 45, then you can set the difficulty of the dungeon, which in the same way as the previous ones can be set to normal, difficult and veteran. The two dungeons featured with the DLC are Depths of Malatar e Frostvault, both characterized by the presence of five bosses and the classic enemies to kill, as well as an always beautiful characterization of the scenarios.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Wrathstone - Review

The first of the two, Depths of Malatar, set in the ancient Ayleid ruins, hidden under a secret imperial fort, it seemed the simpler of the two, although we must admit that some bosses if not dealt with in the right way can be extremely difficult to defeat. One of the bosses that most impressed us from the point of view of the move set and the strategy required for the kill is Symphony of Blades, which at more or less regular intervals generates walls of light capable of knocking us down instantly. The other bosses are all well characterized however and need ad hoc strategies, which must be thought with the team before and during the fight.

The setting of this first dungeon seemed to us very suggestive and also the narrative background is level, in fact during the expedition you will be accompanied by countless dialogues that will help you better understand what's happening, especially enriching your cultural baggage in view of Elsweyr, an expansion on which Bethesda focuses a lot.

The second dungeon featured in Wrathstone is Frostvault, who will guide us into a dwarven crypt full of traps, automata and goblins. This shipment, unlike Depths of Malatar, turns out to be slightly more complex, both from the point of view of the longevity of the dungeon and the difficulty of the bosses. One of the most interesting bosses on the expedition is Vault Protector, a huge mass of well characterized iron, but above all capable of delivering very powerful blows. Also to face the bosses of this dungeon you will be required to coordinate with the members of the group, especially against bosses such as for example Icestalker, which tends to spawn a very high amount of enemies, complicating your adventure considerably. From the point of view of the characterization of the scenario we have perhaps noticed a little more care, probably given by the various obstacles and traps to be overcome, which add that extra bit of adrenaline to the experience.

As per tradition, the introduction of dungeons is also accompanied this time by new equipment sets, to be precise, each dungeon adds three new sets, as well as one new skin and a new pet. Both dungeons also add to the game new collectibles, supplies and achievements. The release of the DLC was accompanied by the release of Update 21, free for all and which introduces a guide system based on the areas we are going to visit, a new Battleground map, PvP rewards, changes to passive skills, updates to the guild merchant and much more.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Wrathstone - Review

Wrathstone, The Elder Scrolls Online DLC that opens the dragon season, introduces two new dungeons: Frostvault and Depths of Malatar, both well-characterized and with bosses that require a well-studied team strategy. In addition to the dungeons, you will have the opportunity to put your hand on new sets of equipment and various cosmetic items, all linked to the level of your character and the level of difficulty you set for the dungeons. We were quite impressed by the desire to introduce a good dose of storytelling that binds to what we have learned so far, and at the same time opening the way towards what will be Elsweyr, the new expansion of ESO dedicated to dragons.
