Animal Crossing: New Horizons - The tools

Animal Crossing: New Horizons - The tools
How to get all the tools? How long does each tool last before breaking? Find the answers in the guide.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons interacting with the many animals and objects on the island requires you to always have the right tools at hand. Here's what they are the main tools of the Nintendo Switch game, how to get them, their longevity and the possibilities of use.

The diagrams to build the tools can be obtained from the early stages of the game: by interacting with the Punto Nook present in the Service Center, it is in fact possible to purchase the diagrams relating to the main instruments at the price of 3000 Nook Miles. Here are the main types of tools in Animal Crossing: New Horizons:

  • Ax
  • Fishing pole
  • Fill
  • Sling
  • Ladder
  • Jumping pole
  • Pala
  • Watering can
  • Wand

First of all, it should be noted that some of the tools, namely the ax, the fishing rod, the net, the slingshot and the are subject to wear: once the limit of uses has been reached, in fact, these break and it is necessary to build new ones. Once Nook's Workshop is unlocked, these tools can also be purchased from the cabinet in the shop. The longevity of each instrument depends on its nature: there is usually a fragile and a more robust version. Let's now examine each tool in detail.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons - The tools

Ax

Useful for obtaining wood from the island's trees or stones and iron or gold from the island's rocks. While the flimsy ax and the stone ax are only meant for this purpose, you have to be careful with the normal ax, which after 3 hits will go to knock down the tree you are hitting. By eating a fruit before using the ax it is also possible to destroy the stones, which will then regenerate in the following days in other points of the island.

  • Brittle Ax (5x Branch, 1x Stone) - Breaks after 40 uses
  • Stone Ax (1x flimsy ax, 3x normal wood) - Breaks after 100 uses
  • Ax (1x flimsy ax, 3x normal wood, 1x iron ore) - Breaks after 100 uses
  • Golden Ax (1x Ax, 1x Gold Ore) - Breaks after 200 uses. Blueprint obtained by destroying 100 axes

Pala

The shovel allows you to dig holes, allowing you to collect hidden objects such as fossils (indicated by the "X" on the ground) but also to hit repetitive rocks very quickly, to extract as much material as possible. If you have the foresight to eat a fruit before using the shovel, this allows the player to literally “collect” the trees, adding them to the inventory: a useful solution in case you decide to move them.

  • Brittle shovel (5x hardwood) - Breaks after 40 uses
  • Shovel (1x fragile shovel, 1x iron ore) - Breaks after 100 uses
  • Gold Shovel (1x Shovel, 1x Gold Ore) - Breaks after 200 uses. Blueprint obtained by helping Gulliver 30 times

Fishing pole

The uses of the fishing rod, of course, are limited to catching fish in lakes, rivers and the sea. Once you have cast the line in front of the fish you intend to catch, you will have to be reactive as soon as the same fish bites (it is possible to understand when this happens from a sound and visual clue, with the normal Switch that also uses the vibration of the Joy- With, which unfortunately does not happen on the Lite). A fundamental tool, in short, in order not to miss all the new fish arriving in the waters of the island.

  • Brittle Fishing Rod (5x branch) - Breaks after catching 10 fish
  • Fishing Rod (1x Fragile Fishing Rod, 1x Iron Ore) - Breaks after catching 30 fish
  • Gold Fishing Rod (1x Fishing Rod, 1x Gold Ore) - Breaks after catching 90 fish. Scheme obtainable by fishing all the fish in the Encyclopedia

Fill

The net allows you to catch insects (and not only), without letting go of the new animals arriving this month on the island: when you are dealing with insects that are particularly difficult to catch such as tarantulas and scorpions, by holding down the A key you it can move closer by keeping the screen in position, while letting it go will move the screen for capture.

  • Brittle net (5x branch) - Breaks after catching 10 insects
  • Net (1x fragile net, 1x iron ore) - Breaks after catching 30 insects
  • Gold Net (1x Net, 1x Gold Ore) - Breaks after catching 90 insects. Scheme obtainable by catching all the insects of the Encyclopedia

Sling

The main use of the slingshot in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to pop the many balloons that pass over the skies of the island, which allow you to obtain useful patterns or other items.

  • Slingshot (5x hardwood) - Breaks after popping 30 balloons
  • Gold Slingshot (1x Slingshot, 1x Gold Ore) - Breaks after popping 90 balloons. Scheme obtainable by bursting 300 balloons

The watering can can be used to water flowers and plants in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, accelerating their growth and promoting the creation of hybrids.

  • Fragile watering can (5x soft wood) - Breaks after 30 uses
  • Watering Can (1x Fragile Watering Can, 1x Iron Ore) - Breaks after 60 uses
  • Gold Watering Can (1x Watering Can, 1x Gold Ore) - Breaks after 180 uses. Scheme obtainable by receiving an island rating of 5 stars

The other tools

There are also other tools in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, such as the ladder (4x normal wood, 4x hard wood, 4x soft wood), which allows you to climb up or down vertical walls; L'jumping pole (5x soft wood) that allows you to skip rivers; there baton (3x star fragment + other material depending on the model), useful for changing clothes at any time: there are various types and depending on the wand, the materials required for creation change.
