Farming Simulator 19 - Review

There's a new farmer in town!

When starting Farming Simulator 19, we immediately notice a revised menu, which in addition to being able to set the various options allows us to choose between Career and multiplayer game modes, not available during our trial. The career, always highly appreciated by fans, allows us to choose between three levels of difficulty: New farmer, agricultural manager and start from scratch. The first, designed for the less experienced, will make us start with already a land, a house, some work vehicles and a small initial cash bonus. The second, designed for experts, will make you start with substantial funds (1.2 million euros) with which you will have to buy your land and agricultural vehicles to start working. The last mode is the most hardcore, in fact you will start with nothing like in the other mode, but you will have a much smaller budget (500 thousand euros).

The "start from scratch" mode is obviously designed for the more experienced, in fact in addition to the differences mentioned there will be more difficulty in selling goods at a high price, the gameplay will be more realistic and in general progress will be much slower than the other modes . As soon as you have chosen the mode, the game will offer you two scenarios in which to start your business: Ravenport and Felsbrunn. The first is an American scenario that has a very characteristic layout of the land, in fact there are very small lots and others very large, therefore designed for an expansive and certainly less varied type of agriculture. Felsbrunn, on the other hand, is a European scenario, which unlike Ravenport has a much more homogeneous arrangement of lots, therefore designed for those who want to have more plots to work on.

As in the previous chapters, in both scenarios, you will be able to buy more plots of land during your career, or you can decide to own only a few hectares of land to then go to work with your neighbors and earn money with which to buy more and more performing vehicles. There is therefore no right or wrong way to play, but you will be asked to think like a real farmer, carefully choosing the type of agriculture you are interested in, be it breeding, forestry or cultivation.

Farming Simulator 19 - Review

New plantations and… horses!

As you already know, one of the aspects that most fascinates Farming Simulator players is the huge variety of things to do, all faithfully reproduced, thanks also to the machinery of the biggest brands available under license. You can simply grow wheat, or devote yourself to something more complex like potatoes, which however require suitable tools for both sowing and harvesting, or you can do something else, deciding to raise livestock or cut wood in the woods. In Farming Simulator 19 all of this is expanded thanks to new tractors, trucks and trailers, which will allow you to perform your daily tasks at best with the best technology on the market.

With this new chapter, however, Giants Software wanted to further expand the offer in terms of crops, adding the cotton. This new addition is not limited to simply a new plantation, it involves the addition of new machinery such as the cotton harvester, essential for the collection of this very important material. Another novelty introduced in Farming Simulator 19 are horses, much requested by fans and that they will finally be able to be part of your farm, after purchasing a special enclosure in the shop, and which will have to be looked after as in real life, to then be able to ride them too. To make the campaign life even more difficult, the developers have introduced, for the most demanding players, a more realistic weed management and quicklime, which must be purchased and distributed in the fields with the appropriate means.

In career mode, missions have also been changed to help players earn money and grow their farm faster. First on all the news is the specific menu for contracts which indicates the objectives and the monetary compensation, thus eliminating the need to personally travel to the area to accept a specific mission. To make each mission more accessible and to make the game less frustrating, they were also removed the time limits for completing each contract, and the possibility of completing the mission with one's own means has been added, but leaving unchanged the possibility of renting the vehicles in case we do not have them.

A nice step forward but ...

During our test, carried out on PC with all settings at maximum, we certainly noticed a big step forward compared to the previous chapter, both from the point of view of frighteningly realistic tractor models, than the graphics sector in general, certainly cleaner and more enjoyable. Every vehicle you get on will seem extremely well-finished, starting from the small cables that perfectly reflect the original version, to the interior that in subjective are well cared for and complete with a monitor which can be viewed in real time, all in favor of an increasingly realistic simulation.

However, there are defects, such as for example not exceptional care of the rooms and that clashes with the care placed in the means of work, or a management of physics that, if we leave out the means, is not at all realistic, making some movements seem completely unnatural. Even this year there have not been any improvements to the "life" of the city, which once again remains empty, with the exception of a few cars here and there which, however, does not avoid making us feel completely alone in the scenario.

The artificial intelligence of the workers, although it is not yet perfect, is certainly more reliable and makes us feel more relaxed than in the past, it will be enough to position yourself at the beginning of the field and hire the worker, then we can safely go to carry out other jobs. to maximize earnings. As for the gameplay variety, we found many possibilities and approaches which, however, all inevitably result in an obligatory repetition, which will see you always carry out the same actions to earn some money, useful for appearing a new vehicle or new animals.

Farming Simulator 19 is a title that greatly improves what has been seen in Farming Simulator 17, adding new vehicles, new plantations and horses, which in addition to being bred can also be ridden. We are certainly not facing a revolutionary title for the series but the improvements are there and are evident, starting from the graphics, certainly much more accurate, to the new management of contracts and the various additions that try to bring new players closer to the world of Farming Simulator. Of course, there is no shortage of news for Hardcore players, such as the new weed management, the addition of quicklime and a series of settings that if activated make the game extremely realistic and much more satisfying. The only two scenarios available and a repetitiveness that affects those who are not very expert in agriculture, contribute to making Farming Simulator 19 an interesting title but one that will hardly be able to get out of that powerful niche that has formed, and which today however has many players. who can't wait to get their hands on this new chapter.
