Sausage Bomber - PC Review

Review for Sausage Bomber. Game for iOS, PC and Android, the video game was released on 17/07/2018

Sausage Bomber. Yes, you read that right. Maybe you already know it from iOS, maybe not, the important thing is to know that the gameplay of this game, (maybe it would be better to say pastime) is just throwing sausages. The studio behind this title is Katsu Entertainment, which released the game in May 2016, recently re-proposing it on PC, and it is precisely this version that we want to talk about.

The (not) History

Let's start with the least important part of the game: the story. Having started out as an iOS game, Sausage Bomber intends to be more of a pastime than anything else, thus lacking a true story. It exists, as in any arcade, as the only reason for us to do what we do, which is to throw sausages. When we load the game for the first time, we are offered a short cutscene explaining that the enemy has invaded our small country and we must fight it. Unfortunately, no weapon was able to stop the invasion, until scientists developed the sausage bomb. Somehow this bomb can get through structures, so it's ideal against fully armored tanks. End of the story. As mentioned earlier, this one exists only to give the player a reason as to why he is throwing sausages from a plane.

Explosive sausages

Moving on to the gameplay, Sausage Bomber immediately makes us think of Angry Birds, with sausages dropped from the sky instead of the famous angry birds. Before starting with the actual levels the game will offer us a tutorial, in which we will be taught everything there is to know: click (or tap if you have the touchscreen) the screen once to release a bomb sausage. When it comes to controls, Sausage Bomber makes things nice and simple for the player and at the same time manages to include some mechanics to make each level fun and varied.

When we click to drop a bomb the sausage will always fall to the right, in order to force us to always have to predict where our bomb will end up at that particular moment; in this phase the emphasis will therefore be on our reaction time. The key to the game, as the same suggests, are chain reactions: every time a sausage falls on a tank, it will explode and make everything around it fly through the air before landing and exploding. This is where the real core of Sausage Bomber comes into play: depending on how many times a flying tank booms, it will increase the amount of points earned, and when the explosions are considerably epic, we might even get a dexterity combo to throw the same tank in the air. The interesting thing is that the reaction generated by our explosions is designed to be unique in every single game, even if we want to play at the same level multiple times.

To keep things interesting, there are a number of different bomb types to sink your teeth into. There is one that does not bounce, but slides on the floor when it hits the ground, another that bounces like a rabbit destroying everything in its path, another giant that moves very slowly, but rolls over tanks and buildings like a monster truck. Finally, we will have the typical sausage bomb that bounces a little, slips a little, but above all does nothing too special compared to the other types of bomb.

Between liveries and explosions

Surprisingly for a game of this type, there is an in-game currency for purchasing items; none of these are being updated, however. First, there are purely aesthetic paints that we can purchase to change the look of our aircraft; this change does not affect the speed or other characteristics of the aircraft and is purely a visual quirk. The second purchase we can make is a special type of bomb, which will clear any level that we can't finish.

As you may have already understood from the images, the score works in a similar way to that of Angry Birds, based on the number of bombs we will use. The score will be higher and we will earn extra points if we manage to complete the level with only one bomb. Once all the tanks have been destroyed, the level will end and we will be awarded one of three medals: gold, silver or bronze. For all completists out there, expect to have a lot of fun - getting all the gold medals can be quite a challenge.

Aesthetically speaking, Sausage Bomber brings with it really well made and vibrant backgrounds that are a visual treat every time we load a level and the explosions, something we will see often, are well done, as you would expect from a game that is based on bombs. and on tanks.

Sausage Bomber - PC Review

Sausage Bomber in terms of gameplay, mechanics and graphics does its duty very well. The only thing that makes us turn up our noses is the PC version. As said several times we are not talking about a real game, but a pastime. A great pastime to be honest, but his world is the mobile one, certainly not that of a fixed screen.
