Cyberpunk 2077: CD Projekt publishes an apology video

With an official video, the co-founder of CD Projekt RED Marcin Iwiński officially apologized to players for the state of Cyberpunk 2077 at console launch, while also providing some background on the development and future plans for the game.

First of all, Iwiński reiterates how the company wants apologize for the quality of the game on console, specifying how the responsibility for what happened falls only on the leadership team, disclaiming any responsibility from the members of the development team. Some development details are then provided, talking about the greatness of the game in terms of content: in this case, the biggest challenge was to make Cyberpunk 2077 spectacular on PC, then adapting it to consoles. Initially the task did not seem so complex, but the course of time has shown how wrong this assumption was.

In fact, Iwiński tells, for example, what was the main culprit and biggest obstacle during development: streaming systems for old-gen consoles (i.e. the process of providing the game engine with what the player then sees on the screen). For this reason, every modification had to be thoroughly tested and, approaching the release, the state of the game seemed to be constantly improving, with a “Day 0” patch that should have guaranteed the achievement of the minimum standards desired by the Polish studio. The co-founder of CDPR then talks about the sending of codes for reviews of the console version, explaining how the team worked until the last second available for the final update: for this reason the codes were sent late compared to what initially planned (starting December 8, those for consoles). In all of this, the remote working situation has not helped, which still makes some simple tasks far more complex.

But let's move on to the most important aspect: Iwiński has indeed outlines future plans for Cyberpunk 2077, with the studio aiming to fix all bug and crash issues on every platform. Small and big updates will be provided, with the next one expected within 10 days and followed by another - more full-bodied - in the following weeks. The DLC, initially slated for a release soon after the game's launch, has been postponed to focus on more important updates. These will be released later for free, with more information in the coming months. The free update for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is also in the works and, currently, plans foresee a release that will take place in the second half of 2021.

In conclusion, finally, it is reiterated how CD Projekt currently stands working to the best of his ability to deliver the best version of Cyberpunk 2077; at the same time, the company has many plans for future projects after Cyberpunk, which will then be revealed in the future once they are ready.
